From the Edinburgh Evening News....

Three offers lodged for Hearts signing target Sammy Silvera as Tynecastle club face competition from England
Australian winger is wanted by teams in Britain but his club are standing firm at the moment.

Barry Anderson
Central Coast Mariners have received three transfer offers for Hearts signing target Sammy Silvera. The Edinburgh club put forward their proposal but find themselves in competition with the English Championship side Plymouth Argyle.

Hearts submitted what they consider to be a good offer worth six figures for the 22-year-old, who is contracted to the Mariners until 2025. The Australian club rejected that bid plus two from Plymouth as they hold out for more.

Hearts are willing to negotiate but have made it clear they will not be held to ransom in their attempts to bring Silvera to Scotland. The Australians are anticipating an improved offer from Tynecastle Park in the coming days and are willing to do business if a bid arrives which matches their valuation.

The Mariners chief executive Shaun Mielekamp and chairman Richard Peil are keen to secure suitable compensation if Silvera is to move on, and the interest from Britain puts them in a relatively strong bargaining position. The player would already satisfy UK visa requirements having been born in London.

Hearts will consider their next move carefully as they strive to strengthen their attacking options for next season. Ironically, they are due to play Plymouth in a pre-season friendly next week whilst both clubs are training in the south of Spain.

Hearts have also looked at the Japanese winger Kanji Okunuki but Silvera remains their preferred target as things stand. Okunuki, 23, is contracted to the Japanese club Omiya Ardija until 2024 and would cost Hearts around £400,000. He spent last season on loan in Poland with Gornik Zabrze.

Sammy Silvera - talk from Australia is that Central Mariners are looking for at least $1mAUD (approx £500k). There are 5-6 noted with interest in him - Argyle, Middlesbrough, Hearts, Israeli team and 2 from Asia.
Do Argyle normally pay those sorts of fees for young players?

Hi RegGreen (apologies I still can’t work out how to quote replies on this forum)
We know very well what it’s like to get by trying to build teams with freebies. Hearts are also strictly managed within tight budgets, since coming out of admin & into fan ownership, so we don’t accumulate huge debts again. It is only recently we have paid £300k - £500k for 4/5 players over the last 3 seasons.
Gems can still be found though but they don’t tend to be available until the end of the window or indeed just after the window is shut where you can pick up an unattached player.
Could be a long summer!!

Had a quick look through the BBC transfers page and in fact very little business seems to have been done by championship clubs as yet-the odd signing here and there but certainly not on a large scale. Maybe most of the clubs are more settled and well stocked player wise than Argyle but still a slightly surprising lack of action.

Given that we only have half a team this total lack of activity is extremely worrying. Hallett's micro budget not pulling them in then.

Argyle claimed to have submitted an offer to sign 26yr old winger/forward Josh Ginnelly (free agent - ex Hearts & PNE). 6 clubs apparently chasing. Rumours are he will be announced by Swansea on Monday.

Plymouth Argyle in advanced Everton transfer talks

Reports have surfaced that Plymouth Argyle are looking to secure another addition ahead of life back in the Championship in the form of Everton centre-back Lewis Gibson.

Football Insider report that Argyle are in ‘advanced talks’ with the defender at this moment in time as they look to secure his services ahead of many other EFL sides.

Who is Lewis Gibson?

The 22-year-old defender is a product of the Newcastle United academy, but made the move from the North East to Goodison Park in the summer of 2017.

However, since making that move to Merseyside, Gibson hasn’t made a single competitive first-team appearance for the Toffees whilst spending four separate loan spells away from the club in the Championship and League One.

His only previous experience at Championship level ahead of this potential move to Home Park was three seasons ago with Reading, where he accumulated just thirteen appearances in a season-long loan deal. His other spells have been at Fleetwood Town, Sheffield Wednesday as well as his last loan at Bristol Rovers.

During his time at the Memorial Stadium last campaign, Gibson scored once in 33 appearances and also captained Joey Barton’s side twice.

In an interview with BristolLive in April, Barton made it clear that if a club in a higher division than Bristol Rovers were to make a move for Gibson, it would make his own club’s circumstances around trying to secure a permanent transfer much more complicated.

This exact scenario is what looks to have played out over recent days.

“We’d love him to stay at the football club, I think he knows exactly how we feel about him. From our perspective, if somebody comes from higher up with a bigger budget and the opportunity to play in the Championship, it’s going to be tricky,” Barton said, via BristolLive.

In his international career, Gibson featured for the England Under 17’s, Under 18’s and Under 20’s , lifting the World Cup for the first of those respective age groups.

Was there any previous speculation between Lewis Gibson and Plymouth?

With no prior links regarding a move to Steven Schumacher’s newly promoted side, the report has very much come out of the blue.

The only previous reports this transfer window regarding Gibson’s future were of a potential permanent transfer to The Gas after a successful loan spell.

Despite these links, the centre back was offered a new deal as part of Everton’s end-of-season retained and released list, but has since become a free agent as the 2023/24 season officially began on Saturday.

Gibson sounds an excellent development prospect if he’s secured. Will still have a lot to learn in the dark arts of CH but could be worth a punt.

if he signs great hopefully he turns out to be a great signing. I would also like us to sign someone with championship experience also as we will need another defender regardless for the squad numbers which will be important more so than ever in the championship.

Just seen a photo of the club boarding an easyjet for their Spanish boot camp, Not sure the club will announce any signings next week unless they have some already over the line ready to announce over there i cant see them flying anyone out.

Update from Brristol world

Plymouth Argyle are in advanced talks to sign Bristo Rovers star Lewis Gibson, who has been offered a new contract at Everton.

Gibson was surprisingly offered new terms by the Toffees after they published their 2022/23 retained list. The 22-year-old however could be about to depart Goodison Park, and leave for a team he faced twice last season, according to reports.

As for Rovers, a return to the Memorial Stadium for Gibson was hopeful at best, and even if he had chosen to join them, they would have needed to paid a substantial bit of compensation for him as per FA rules. The Gas have already signed James Wilson this window from Gibson’s prospective new club Plymouth

In the last fortnight, Gibson had been in Portugal for a two-week training camp with the Radcliffe Group, which focuses on physiotherapy, wellbeing, and performance.

One would assume they offered an equivalent financial package prior to the expiry of his previous contract so EFC can invoke a Development fee if he goes to an English club.
Interestingly he would not incur any Development fee if he signed for a Scottish or International club. “Foreign clubs” usually offer the player a signing on fee as an enticement in these cases.

Middlesbrough, Stoke City, Plymouth Argyle and another unnamed Championship club have all seen bids accepted for Central Coast Mariners star Sammy Silvera, according to the Daily Record.
Silvera, 22, was a standout performer in Central Coast Mariners’ A-League winning side over the 2022/23 campaign. He notched eight goals and six assists in 29 games across all competitions and put in a starring display in their Grand Final win over Melbourne City at the start of last month.

It now rests in the player’s hands with a decision set to be made in the next 24 to 48 hours.

the local rag has us linked with Celtic goalkeeper Conor Hazard on a perm quoting six figure transfer fee....

do we need a keeper at the moment over the other areas of the picture thst need attention? there is no doubt in my mind cooper wont be ready for the start of the season as you dont just get over an ACL tear it will take time and if he and the club are smart they wont rush recovery even if he does play a few minutes in a re season game so signing a keeper on a 6 month loan would have been a good move but im not so sure we need to be signing a keeper on a perm while cooper is still here and burton too doesnt make sense to me right now.

We do need a keeper, absolutely we do. Nothing against Burton but until coming here he has basically been a number 2 keeper at League2 level. He did ok for us and we got over the line without him having, let’s be honest, a great deal to do.

He isn’t good enough to be playing regularly in the Championship.

If this move happens it makes sense. This fella will know he’s gonna play straight away, no disrespect to Burton but he will. Then he’ll know Cooper is destined for bigger things so there’s a chance for him to stake a long term claim to our no.1 jersey.

but do you spend a 6 figure sum on a backup keeper now though. Plus where this guy from Celtic is concerned the last 2 players we brought in from them where absolute dogshit so im wary if there is legs to this story.
