| Dewsnip discusses transfer business
With the first day of pre-season training fast approaching, excitement is beginning to build for the start of the 2022/23 Sky Bet League One season.
Even though the players have been away from Home Park, getting some well-deserved rest, it doesn’t mean that the football side of the club has shut down.
Behind the scenes the likes of Director of Football, Neil Dewsnip, Head of Recruitment, Jimmy Dickinson and manager Steven Schumacher have been hard at work trying to identify new recruits to improve the squad this year.
And the first bit of business may not be that far away, “We are pretty close with something being quite imminent,” Neil revealed.
“We have been working hard all summer, talking to different people, trying to find the right fit for us and the fans will see that work very soon.”
The process in which Argyle go about their transfer business is widely known and has been successful in recent times.
The relationship between the club and data analytics company MRKT Insights has been a big part of the recruitment policy and Neil feels that the process is working well.
He said, “We work with MRKT Insights in identifying targets that are appropriate for us and once we have them identified, we go about trying to get them.
“Over the last couple of years, we have created a profile of the type of player we want to bring to the club. That profile is based around their technical and tactical abilities, their physical and mental capabilities and also their personality and social mindset.”
Contrary to some reports in the media, Argyle are continuing to explore all avenues of transfer activity, in line with strategy implemented by the club. This includes permanent additions to the squad, backed by an increased football budget, as well as the loan market, where appropriate.
Neil said, “We want to get the right person in and that could be anyone. It could be a player under contract at a club elsewhere, it could be a free agent, or it could be someone who has been made available for a loan signing.
“If they are going to improve Argyle and fit our recruitment profile, we will try and get them to Home Park.”
Last summer saw 10 players join the club, with the majority of them signed before the start of pre-season.
Although there aren’t the same number of early dealings this time around, Neil is confident that the work he, Jimmy and Steven have been doing in the past few weeks, will mean the squad is un a good place heading into the season.
He said, “We are not attempting a major overhaul. We have got 22 players under contract, and what we know is the vast majority of that group got us to seventh place and a bit of a hard luck story.
“We have to be intelligent in the market, and that's what I think we would like to be, we know that we don't need to change a load unnecessarily and we do not intend to.
“We are just looking for a couple of fine tunings that can hopefully make us just a little bit better this year.” |

that and also schuey wanting a bigger squad which having a smaller squad killed us owards the end of last season seems to be a no aswell. Yesi did see what you posted tgwu from the os however the fact they worded that way tells me they got rumbled and fans are already voicing their opinion on their stance. hallet better be ready for fireworks from the fans cause they wont tolerate his words and gestures if we are struggling next season. |

| The club had an ideal opportunity to give us a much improved budget for a much improved squad and that would have to include strength in depth, we may have 22 players but most are youngsters and or not up to the level of the first eleven, SI and co decided to spend a massive chunk of cash on smartening up the ground. Maybe the first eleven will stay fit all season and carry us over the line to at least a playoff spot, maybe if we get a really good loan player who is ripping the league up they won't get recalled to their parent club in January. Personally I think we will be lucky to match last season without a decent budget increase and I can't see where that would come from with the level of spending elsewhere. |

if the squad size isnt bigger than 22 and we dont strengthen we will be back in the bottom half of the table. Teams around us are strong and are strengthening now and will be having numbers in their squads. 26 taking into account the first year pros in that number who will be loaned out to pub sides cause thats great for professional football development apparently over reserve team football we should be aiming for that number. Another 4 signings seems right to me (5-6 poss 7 pending what happens with camara and both coopers) |

| PLYMOUTH ARGYLE EDGE CLOSER TO BEAT BOLTON AND ROTHERHAM TO EFL MIDFIELDER SIGNING
Plymouth Argyle are set to sign Accrington Stanley midfielder Matt Butcher, sources have exclusively revealed to Football League World.
The 25-year-old, who featured 33 times in the league for the Lancashire outfit last time out, chipped in with four goals and three assists.
Set to be available on a free transfer, after Stanley were unable to strike a fresh agreement with the midfield, it is Steven Schumacher’s Plymouth who seem set to seal his signature ahead of the 2022/23 campaign. |

| A little bit of news here. Not going to progress interest in signing Ryan Broom as thought, Purrington has a been a name discussed but would be strange considering we have 2 players for that position. Nothing as yet for Camara, possible he might be here next season. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Grant might be needed in midfield next season. Can Purrington play on the left of three centre backs? Looks like Camara's agent has over estimated the interest in his player. |

Looks like Camara's agent has over estimated the interest in his player. Or the injury may be worse than thought/or played down by club when it happened hoping to cash in. All this talk of Camara wanting to go is bollocks the club have been touting him since January. Personally I hope he stays and see's his contract out. |

| Not sure Camara wants to go.
Looks agent driven so he can get his cut, taking advantage of someone who struggles with English. |

If indeed Argyle have beaten Pompey, Bolton and Rotherham to this bloke then they must be doing something right-maybe the extra money from last season is going into the wage budget rather than any transfer fee, which would fit in with the stuff that Parkinson said about free agents. I'm as cynical as anyone else about Argyle having seen good players sold and garbage signed over a long period of time but this one doesn't seem to be a bad one on the face of it, maybe a Camara type of deal-lets be truthful we all manked about signing unknowns from Crawley at the time. Anyway until it's signed and sealed probably wise not to count chickens but not entirely unhappy with this if it goes through. |

6 goals in 80 odd games for Stanley-hope he isn't earmarked to add to the goals from midfield.

Butcher was Argyle's first summer signing but there are expected to be a few more - perhaps three or four - over the rest of the summer transfer window. |

| Plymouth Argyle are reported to be among a number of League One clubs interested in signing Mickel Miller after his release by Rotherham United.
Argyle have already held talks with the 26-year-old, along with Burton Albion and Fleetwood Town, according to The Star in Sheffield, who also believe Cambridge United, Lincoln City and Portsmouth are keen on him.
Miller was part of Rotherham's squad which finished as runners-up to Wigan Athletic in League One last season, and also won the Papa John's Trophy.
He made a total of 30 appearances during 2021/22, including 15 starts, and scored four goals, and often played as a left wing-back for Paul Warne's side.
Miller started the Papa John's Trophy final against Sutton United at Wembley, which Rotherham went on to win 4-2 after extra-time. |
