Steven Schumacher is set to be appointed the new Plymouth Argyle manager, Football Insider has learned.

This site revealed earlier today that Ryan Lowe is quitting to take over at Championship outfit Preston North End.

An Argyle source has told Football Insider that Schumacher is expected to replace Lowe as manager rather than follow him to Preston.

Schumacher is now looking to forge his own path in management after a successful playing career spanning 16 years and 446 senior appearances.

However, the Home Park job will not be the former Everton midfielder’s first taste of senior management.

The 37-year-old took charge of non-league side Southport on a caretaker basis following the sacking of Alan Lewer in 2017.

Schumacher now faces the task of getting Plymouth’s promotion push back on track after slipping to three consecutive league defeats.

The Devon side travel to fellow promotion chasers MK Dons tomorrow in what could be the former Bury midfielder’s first game in charge.
only till he takes his mates up there lol!

where would this leave Dewsnip was he a Lowe inspired appointment or a club one as given the role he has we will be totally fecked if he were to go too before we can get a replacement in first.

then theres that physio guy who thankfully is only part time but still he heads it all.

If he hasn't travelled to mk with the team that is a disgrace, as far as I'm aware he is still our manager and the team should be his first priority until such times as he's allowed to leave. If he and Preston have permission to talk then do it out of 'Argyle hours'

would we really want someone in the dugout whos mind isn't 100% focused on Argyle.

To be honest either way its for the best hes not in the dugout till its resolved one way or another. If he didnt want the job he would have said no im stay so he clearly wants the job at Preston and forcing the clubs hand into accepting the offer.

That could backfire badly on him if Preston decided Paul Cook is a better manager (fwiw i hope the club go for him if Lowe goes) to approach for example and hes cheaper.

By not travelling (if true) there is no way back for him in my opinion, whether he gets the pne job or not. True colours shown.

If he hasn't travelled on the coach he is gone, on the other hand he may have driven to MK so that he drive to Preston after the game.

we really do attract some idiots supporting this club especially on social media as posting Ryan abuse based on rumour and not fact is beyond stupid and ridiculous.

No doubt those same fans will be singing his name next week if he is in the dugout aswell and put it all down to bantz

I find it highly amusing at the amount of screen-jabbing and frothing at the mouth by the yoots on Lloyds FB page and other social media outlets. Most amusing (((shuffles off sniggering to oneself whilst sipping a 10 year old Speyburn)))))

It's just a feckin job. We must have had 763,243 managers since 1886. Lowe's just another white line in the middle of the road. I mean, who could actually blame him for going? Their ground has corners, FFS. Laughing

Must admit I did think if he did go it would be to a championship club, although not one as mediocre as Preston.

I don't think this is a done deal by any means.

It is a done deal. 100%.

He has messaged players saying goodbye etc. That comes from an impeccable source.

Lots of questions:

Did RL even come back from Rochdale?

Will he take Mayor and M Cooper with him?

Will we buy Broom with the Compo?

How long before someone says we should get Coughlan?Frio/Mickey Evans/Sheridan/Adams/Fletcher/Peter Reid back?

Can we nick Tisdale from Stevenage?

No. He’s a serial mercenary who jumps ship at the slightest better offer.

If Schumacher wants the job, which it seems like he really does, I’d give it to him till the end of the season to see if he can carry on with our push. The upside obviously would be familiarity and continuity of the same sort of methods that have been largely working well this season.

Then take stock in the summer.
