No doubt but she was following a Friedmanesque economic dictat which to all intents and purposes was widly accepted to be the only way out of the usual precepitive chasm her Labour predecessors had left us teetering on the edge of, there are many who still consider that without the actions taken at that time we might have remained the third world country we had become under Wilson and Callaghan. The Falkland Islands was a British protectorate for 149 years before it was invaded by the jack booted army of a vicious murdering Argentinian junta which had already killed tens of thousands of their own people, they started the fooking war, Maggie to her great credit was massively influential in ensuring the British people of the Falklands regained their freedom from tyranny. She and some thousands of brave British lads and lasses, over 250 of whom lost their lives including a member of my family and some good friends, ensured that the heinous crimes of mainland Argentina could not be inflicted upon people who are every bit as British as most of the posters on here and me, I don't have a fooking clue what you and Alantivvy might be.

Disagree with her policies, I certainly did with most of them, but FFS, she was a wife and mother, came from an era when politicians were not soapy feckin poli/sy students with three years experience as a media rep for some other ex poli/sy student, she did a proper job for years contributing to society while bringing up a family, served in a number of government positions with distinction and was a far better PM than Blair in almost every respect, for one thing she never started a war and there was never a hint of corruption about her personal dealings.

She had feck all to do with your friend's suicide and while I would never suggest any politician deserved respect you might observe a little decorum but my guess from the posts is you are far too feckin ignorant to understand the word.

Yet if one of her defence cuts hadn't been to remove the ice breaking warship based at Port Stanley 4 weeks beforehand then it would probably never have happened.

So you want to blame someone for trying to reduce tensions in the area ?

Implementation of the defence cuts was a situation so far below her pay grade that it has no significance in this context, the MoD in the person of Carrington took resposibility and plenty of blame for misinterpretation of the situation pertaining could be laid at various doors.
None of that changes the fact that Argentina invaded British territory and the effort and sacrifice that went into regaining it might still not have been enough without the resolute leadership shown by Maggie.

As I have already stated I had no great love for the Maggster, if there were, or had been, a real Socialist Party available to me I would most certainly have voted for it a couple or three times at least by now. I simply can't comprehend how so much joy can be expressed by so many of you 'tards over the death of this woman. Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Gadaffy Duck, Sodoff Hussein, Milosevic, Mugabe, Galtieri, al Bashir, Bashir Assad, the Kim Jongs, Mao, Bokassa and quite a few others, yes ok, they were all murdering bastards who offed up to a good few millions of their own, Mags had a few dodgy economic policies and won a Mexican stand off with Scargill which scarred large parts of the country for some time, some would say forever, the effect of her term was to drag UKplc kicking and screaming into the twentieth century, not everything was rosey then and it certainly couldn't be argued to have been perfect since, but I remain convinced that her motivation was to do the best she could for all the people of this country which, if I am correct, would have been an admirable aspiration. Some people got damaged on the road, this is an inevitable effect of doing just about anything major on a national scale, see Schumpeter's Gale for those of you without a degree in economics, she didn't have the army up in Yaaarkshire shooting dead the miners although there were fatalities, thousands of dissidents didn't disappear, she didn't take up a lucrative poste office career whoring for the oil companies based on having gone to war so they could rape Iraq. She's was just and old bird who had a go then went doolally tap.
