First past the post is archaic and completely anti-democratic when constituency boundaries can be changed to suit. This countries completely broken political system is screaming out for PR. Problem is it doesn't benefit the corrupt, useless and incompetent tories so will never happen.

The European Commission is the executive branch of the European Union, responsible for proposing legislation, enforcing EU laws and directing the union's administrative operations.

Democracy is fine as long as you get the result that you want, when you don't its corruption. I agree with Freathy on PR things haven't changed a lot since Blackadder's time. I would go further and change to a republic with a constitution.

As is Usually the case, visitor numbers to ATD generally outnumber those of the membership whenever I've tuned in - they do so now. Therefore some might have noticed the repetitive nature of some Plympton Pilgrim's posts - Little England is a favourite of his. So what brings about his love of the EU and his hatred of Brexit and presumably democracy ? By his own admission, come October when the car windscreen starts to ice up, he packs his toothbrush and heads to sunnier climes near Spain's Mediterranean coast and there he stays until temperatures begin rise in April. While I've said in the past that I would willingly seem him continue his chosen lifestyle, I don't see why I should forfeit my desire to escape the creeping dominance of the Franco / German block just so he can continue as before. The whole shoddy mess is just Brussels grudge-bearing inflexibilty.

Nobody governed us in Europe. As part of the EU we were a sovereign nation, as are all other members. They are not ruled by Europe, Brussels or anyone else. Being part of the European Union means nations are able to trade freely with each other, opening up a market of millions, co-operate on things like security, enjoy freedom of movement, benefitting economies and businesses large and small.

Like I said we had no say in who governed us in Europe, maybe a bit of anti federalist leanings and an inability to be able to see how it benefited our economy by driving down wages for the majority of the country. Remainers generally didn't work for the minimum wage. And let's not forget the massive cost of belonging and any money going round and round a lot of unelected beaurocrats. I could go on. I'm happy to own it I think we will thrive.

However, I did known that the late David Niven lived at Cap Ferrat on the French Riviera while the highly regarded Alistair Campbell penned lurid porno stories for Forum Magazine while domiciled thereabouts. I certainly do. At our club they move the teeing off spot a yard or so forward.
