I'm a cynic when it comes to mainstream TV in any case but I genuinely don't "get" the ESC and so I didn't watch it. It costs god knows how much to stage and broadcast... and for what? Will Austria's GDP rise perceptibly? Will we even have remembered it by next week? Will there ever be a future winner who doesn't have some sort of an angle or issue to promote/overcome?

The voting makes the Eastern Ukrainian seperatist referendum look like the pinacle of Cleistheneian democracy when it elevates the giants of world music like Austria and any other recent winner to the top podium.

Sorry, don't get it at all.

I'm sure Gillette & Wilkinson are working on a contract for the winner to make a few bob.

The pinnacle of Eurovision was reached in 1966. How could you follow this?

Swine! That video cut off after only a few seconds. Just after I was beginning to enjoy it.

Mind you, in those few seconds it managed to sum up The Eurovision contest.

(And thank you for introducing me to the term "Cleistheneian democracy". I shall now wait for an opportunity to use it.)
