McCormick appointed first team captain

Bound to draw negative press given his past.

LUKE McCormick will lead the Pilgrims into the new Sky Bet League Two campaign when it begins tomorrow.

The 32-year-old goalkeeper has been appointed first-team captain by manager Derek Adams in succession to Curtis Nelson.

After being given the skipper’s role in several of the club’s pre-season friendlies, Luke will take his first official steps as captain in Saturday’s first league match of the season at home to Luton Town.

The vastly experienced Luke, who was part of Argyle’s 2001-02 and 2003-04 title-winning teams, will be supported by fellow long-term Pilgrim – and good friend – Gary Sawyer, who has been appointed vice-captain.

Luke is approaching 300 appearances for the club that he joined as a 15-year-old, while Gary passed 150 Argyle games last season.

All this does is demonstrate the clear and present lack of on-field out-field leadership.

Oh well.

Not a big fan of keepers as captains..should be a midfielder..but i will say my mate pointed out during the WBA friendly luke seemed to be more vocal than normal at the back

he did no leading today other than lapping up the praise from blocks 3-4.

He should not be captain at all as despite argyle's blanket banned on it ever being mention there is no excusing what he got sent down for and that alone makes him unworthy of being responsible for others.
