Anyway.

Sheridan does his usual and grinds out a win when under pressure so pressure off until he doesn't win any of the next 3 and we're down to 14th.

How the frigging hell we are this high is mystifying but hey ho.

And so it goes on.......am I the only one who is this bored before the clocks have even gone back? For the first time today ever chose radio 5 over Argyle player.

Decent first half from both teams, like the look of young Reid, neat and tidy player and delivered an excellent cross for Reid senior to convert. Both sides had their chances,Reid had a goal disallowed, couldn't see what for but nobody made much of it in fairness. There was always an edgy sort of atmosphere around the ground which could have got much worse had Argyle not scored and the tension was evident in the first 20 minutes of the second half, when Argyle surrendered the initiative and invited Shrewsbury to come on,which they inevitably did.McCormick made a superb tip on to the bar, defenders made plenty of last ditch clearances but to their credit Argyle were very resolute and gradually began to create more on the break.Lewis's form is a bit of a worry at the moment-working very hard but not really making the right decisions, emphasised when he scandalously chose to shoot instead of squaring to Reid, who had an open goal in front of him.Shrewsbury will probably feel aggrieved but Argye apparently were the same at Accrington-tough shit. There is no doubt that Argyle are more solid defensively than for some time and the home record is the best at this stage of the season than for many years-maybe something is starting to be built but a very long way to go before any chickens start to be counted, good Sturrock type win today though.

A game of two halves.

In the first we started brightly and put them under pressure from the off, Reuben scored but it was disallowed (I don't know why either). Thereafter Shrewsbury came more into an open game that could easily have been classed as "cracking entertainment".

The 2nd half... Oh dear. A team of two halves this time. Everything you could wish for in terms of defensive discipline, effort, teamwork and all that boring stuff that ought to come as standard. In terms of ball retention or controlling the game... Simply awful. The possession stat for the 2nd half must have been about 80:20 - possibly worse.

That said Alessandra had the best chance (exactly as Greenskin describes) and McCormick saved the points with an awesome tip onto the bar that he had no right to make.

Mellor has settled in nicely at right back since a dodgy start, Bobby Reid takes a mean set piece with his corners being especially good but he ran out of steam with 20 minutes to go which is worrying for a young player (although he'll obviously improve with games), Blizzard is far more comfortable in the other teams half than he is in ours with O'Connor being the exact opposite.

And the more I see the more I am convinced that at this level we have 3 exceptional players: Reuben, Nelson (who has never played better for us than he did today) and McCormick. Get another 8 as good as them and we'll walk this division - and probably the next.

A lucky but welcome 3 points that does little to inspire confidence that we'll be up there at the end.

(And in their #4 Shrewsbury have a damned fine midfielder - no idea who he is.)
