| Torquay United sack manager Alan Knill, with the club deep in relegation trouble at the foot of League Two. |

| It was a mistake by Torquay to sack Martin Ling imo. |

CLUB STATEMENT Alan Knill Departs
IT is with great regret that Torquay United can announce we have terminated the contract of manager Alan Knill.
The first half of this season has not gone as we all hoped and the Board at Plainmoor believe now is the right time for a change.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Alan for all his hard work at our club and especially his success in helping us stay in League 2 at the end of last season. We all wish him the very best in his future career.
The search for a new manager begins immediately but, in the meantime, our head of youth Geoff Harrop will take the team for Saturday’s game with Morecambe at Plainmoor.
No further comment will be made at this time.

| No surprise there really, however Torquays form had picked up recently, so another few games might have been a little fairer, but id be surprised if they are not in the bottom 4 when the season ends, hopefully not in the bottom 2. |

I dont think they can afford Sturrock's wages and wants so i would say Hargreaves will be the front runner for them. |

| Chris Hargreaves is set to be announced as the new boss. Good move for Torquay i think, he knows the club, the area and by all accounts is pretty clued up as a coach at Bournemouth. If they can persuade a experienced coach/assistant to join him there then Torquay could stay up and be a strong unit next season. |

| Really hope it goes well for the double H combo. That would be a pair that'd go down really well at Home Park if they become poachworthy in a year or two. |

| Thought the vacant Gulls job had Chris Hargreaves written all over it, no great surprise for many Gulls fans. I wish Chris and Lee all the best and I'm sure they will get the club up the league again. Nice guy and a decent player at lower league level and has a good football brain and is articulate, good to see Lee Hodges back in league football again. Will try and get up to Plainmoor soon to cheer the Gulls on. |

Absolute bollocks, the cheap option would've been to keep Alan 0. |

What? As opposed to the marquee managerial appointments Torquay are so well known for? |

I'd say it has common sense written all over it personally. |

What a very odd thing to say. You think Hargreaves and Hodges come cheap? Had they been appointed by your James I think your view would have been different. |

| chris fits the torquay mould well, again he knows the club well, the area he lives in and he is a respected coach given torquay are a small club with not alot of finance he is someone who could do a good job for them. Lee Hodges again is someone who knows the area and seen success with Truro so he is a good assistant for a coaching ordinated manager like chris. |

Had they been appointed by your James I think your view would have been different. Haha so true! If Sweet Baby James had come up with the idea, it would have been genius, somehow. I like the Torquay press release. Thanking Alan Knill for keeping them up? Didn't Torquay drop like a proverbial anvil after midseason, from being in the top half and thinking about the playoffs? No idea on Hargreaves's credentials for the job, but he was a classy player back in the day. Wrote his own autobiography apparently. Hodges seems to have an impressive future in the game, so I hope the pair do well.

| It actually just might herald a new start for the club. I've been quite impressed with the way both of them have handled themselves over the past few years. |
