Derek Adams: Plymouth Argyle's home kit is 'too green'

DEREK ADAMS has admitted he thinks Plymouth Argyle's home strip this season is 'too green'.

It is the reason why the Pilgrims have worn white socks rather than green ones in recent matches.

With the green kit, the green pitch and the green stands around Home Park, Adams believes it is a problem.

Some supporters have wondered whether it has been a cause for Argyle losing their last three midweek home matches because the players have not seen each other clearly.

Adams told Herald Sport: "We have an issue with the strip.

"We have changed to white socks because we feel the strip is too green."

Adams has not ruled out the possibility of Argyle wearing their away shirts – white with a green band across the chest – in the League Two clash against Blackpool at Home Park tonight (7.30pm).

Another option is to wear the usual green shirts with white shorts and socks.

Adams said: "We don't want to change too much but that's not to say we won't in the future.

"We just feel the white socks allow us to stand out more."

Adams revealed the decision to change to white socks for home games was his choice, and did not follow any comments from his players about visibility issues.

"I have had it before at other clubs, where we have played with white socks many times," said the Pilgrims' boss. "It definitely helps the players standing out.

He added: "The green on green with the pitch, and with the seating as well, does blend in. We just need a greater brightness to see people."

Asked whether he would consider Argyle wearing their white away shirts for a home midweek match, Adams replied: "Yes, we possibly could. That's something we have spoken about.

"We have thought about that, but we just have to be careful in what we do because we have got to respect that the home shirt is the home shirt.

"But, at times, we will wear the away strip for home games."

Adams revealed the issues over the green home kit will lead to a new design in 2017/18.

He said: "The club have already done that. They have put that in for next season.

Everybody will be pleasantly surprised with the home and away kit.

"I don't if it will be a different shade of green, but a different design to this season."

Argyle have played four midweek home matches this season, first beating Newport County 4-1 in the EFL Trophy in August.

Since then they have lost in the league to Barnet (0-2), Leyton Orient (2-3) and Notts County (0-1).

Adams did not blame the green home kit for that, though.

"It's coincidence, because we were two minutes away from winning against Leyton Orient, and we didn't play well against Notts County," he said. "These things happen."

Same old stuff. Maybe it's going to be D and C high viz shirts next season. Jim could get the squad players not actually on the pitch to do a bit of stewarding, while waiting for the call. Could save him a couple of hundred a week.

It is too green.

Maybe next season's kit wont have stripes for one too annoy captain wankspasm thumbs ups all round and 2 have white shorts at least.

Alex Ferguson once blamed a grey changed strip for a poor Man U performance. That was a load of bollox too.

The kits to blame....lolol!   some of the donkeys wearing it maybe more to blame than the kit

Weren't the fans promised a hand in kit design?

Argo 0 Blackpool 3, we never had a chance, man, after all - the pitch was green, our kits were green, the seats were green and the ball was a bit green, even Pilgrim Pete was green.
It was just too much, how the hell could we see anything - we never stood a chance.

Argyle played tonight in that horrible version of the fabulous 1960's white shirts with the green band around the middle. Fecking sash is almost comically too big and the wrong colour,a true abomination. Wouldn't have made any difference though-Argyle were crap and would have been if they wore turd brown shirts with phlegm coloured arrows on them.
