A proper Seadog

My old fella,was a seadog.My old avatar of SS Beaverburn,my old man was on it when it was sunk by a German u boat on 5/2/1940 .He was 21years old at the time,he survived thankfully.but died 6 years ago at the age of 86.Great dad

My old man was RN, fleet air arm during the war then Tecalemit forever, great Dad too.

What part of Tecalemit & when Seadog ? I did my apprenticeship there.

my dad is a seadog also, chief engineer for maersk

Thanks, I was at the Marsh Mills filter division but started in 1983. Garage Equipment had long gone up to Belliver by then. The name sort of rings a bell but can't picture him.

I would recognise the Tecalemit employee smell instantly if one walked by.

Yes, a very distinctive smell. Never did work out what it was.

Some airborne lubricant which impregnated all clothing worn there.

Must have done wonders for the lungs [gasping!]

We had a pet parrot on one ship I was on.

Have seen monkeys, parrots and even an alligator on various ships visiting the dockyard. Of course there was always a ships cat.

Never had any pets in the workplace but had plently of chimps as work colleagues.
