Plymouth Argyle field two trialists for opening Tavistock test

PLYMOUTH Argyle have included two trialists in midfield in two XIs named by manager John Sheridan for Tuesday night’s first pre-season friendly at Tavistock, Langsford Park – Oliver Norburn, 21 and formerly of Bristol Rovers, and American college player Duncan Capriotti, 22.

Californian Duncan, 22 and out of Chapman University, was named in a first-half line-up, while Norburn was named in a second-half XI.

Norburn has made more than 40 appearances in two years with Rovers after coming through the ranks at Leicester City.

TEAMS

Argyle (first-half): James Bittner; Kelvin Mellor, Aaron Bentley, Carl McHugh, Ben Purrington; Matt Lecointe, Duncan Capriotti, Tyler Harvey, River Allen, Nathan Thomas; Marvin Morgan

Argyle (second-half): Luke McCormick; Kelvin Mellor, Curtis Nelson, Peter Hartley, Carl McHugh; Nathan Thomas, Lee Cox, Oliver Norburn, Jason Banton; Lewis Alessandra, Reuben Reid

The comeback is on - Tavi pull one back: 1-5

The ex-Rovers lad sounds like unfulfilled potential personified.

Can Shez screw his head back on?

Was a good evening out. Capriotti was pants, whereas Norburn looked very comfortable in our side. The team played well. Bittner was a commanding keeper in the box, barking orders to the young back 4 in front of him. Bentley really impressed me, all the defensive players that featured did actually. Ben P, McHugh and Bentley especially. Allen and Harvey were great in the midfield in the first half, would like to see one or both of those two play alongside Cox at some point in preseason. Banton came on and pissed it. Overall, solid first preseason performance - albeit expected.

But he does have a 'google' page.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

If that is him, it begs the question why is he playing in the first place?  Don't you have to be 'international' standard to be signed?

Even if he somehow is eligible, 'Chapman College' is pretty far down the 'soccer' totem pole in California never mind the USA.  How has he been overlooked by local scouts?

Kinda worrying seeing the kind of targets Shez has in mind to replace Hourihane.

To think many didn't want Luke Young any more and Luke Summerfield wasn't good enough, now we're looking at 22 year olds out of US universities who have never played pro football.

The yank was awful, well out of his depth, but Norburn looked very usefull. Cox looked very effective in the attacking midfield role aswell, perhaps JS is looking at that as its probably easier to get a defensive midfielder in.

Very good run out for the lads.

Im really hoping for big things from young Thomas, I like watching this kind of no fear attacking player. put in some good crosses, and always looked dangerous going forward, just needs better discipline.

Trialist are always a good thing, its at no cost to Argyle and they might unearth a gem.

True, but shorely we are looking to loan a decent CCC centre mid to run the show, the most important position IMO? Maybe the Rovers lad could be a useful addition and may bring something to the table but to have any chance what so ever next season Hourihane must be replaced with a similar quality player.

I would rather Johnny S took it to the very last minute of this transfer window to find Hourihane's replacement rather than panic sign someone to appease some. We dont want to end up with another Hamza again

We still need to find someone who can cover/beef up the numbers playing on both sides of the wing and full back too.
