Can some of you losers down there show some spunk and take a point or two off Sarfend FFS, looks like an easy 9 to me for one of our rivals.

23 points. Oh dear.

After yesterday we are 2 points down on my predictions. Those predictions resulted in an end of season total of 47 points. Now we are "on target" for 45.

Last night's draw "gains" us a point and moves us back to a grand total of 46 points at the end of the season.

We need goals and wins and we need them quick.

The big question now is how many points will be enough?

It's still on a knife edge.

I'm convinced the "winning" post is at least 48. Everyone bar us, Torquay and Accrington require less than a point a game to get to that mark. Even one win for teams like Wimbldon, York, Barnet etc put them within touching distance of 48 points.

A win Saturday will put us on 40 points with 8 games to go. Anything less given that 5 of those games are away from home will make things tricky.

If you take Rochdale out of the equation then the three games before Rotherham (H), Burton (A) and Cheltenham (H) are all tough. 2 points would be great from these. This means we need to be on at least 43 heading into those to leave us a win on the last day.

Can we get at least 6 points from Fleetwood, Southend, Chesterfield and Exeter. A tough call.

Putting their league positions aside and going by their performances at Home park the games coming up against York, Chesterfield and Burton are all very winnable. Each of those 3 was abject against us.

9 points?

Home games against Cheltenham and Exeter also might offer us some points.

2 more?

Let's face it this is a very poor division filled with very poor teams so, despite us being almost bottom of the pile, we could get the results we need.

3 points somewhere else and we're up to 51 points.

It's still all to play for.

Yesterday's "unexpected" 3 points moves us back to a notional 48 point total. This just might be enough but it is still too close to call.

The 2 that go down are likely to be chosen from Aldershot, Accrington, Barnet, Torquay, Us (all on 40 points and York who are on 41. York and Aldershot have played 39 everybody else 38.

So with 8 games to go it looks like we will need at least 48 points to stay up.

For the first time in a long time on the balance of probabilities I think staying up edges it. But only just.

Five teams on 40 points and York on 41, having played a game more as with Aldershot - so basically it's too close to call for any of the teams. The deciding factor is whether we can keep on picking up points regularly in the last eight games, because two teams won't and they will go down. cheers

3 points at Southend where I expected none could be where Argyle's worm turns as we home in on a 51 point total.

2 points ahead with 7 games to go isn't great but it is infinitely better than 2 points behind.

Right now I think we'll stay up and I haven't thought that since we drew with Accrington and Dagenham and Redbridge.

Chesterfield is winnable too because they were bloody rubbish down here.

Just think. Not long ago we were worried that we might be relegated by losing at home to Exeter and now if we beat Chesterfield and Exeter that could be the game that effectively sees us stay up!

And they'll be desperate to win not just because it is against us but because they would much rather go up automatically than have to negotiate the play-offs.

It's going to be a massive game.

There are quite a few "6 pointers" still to be played between our relegation rivals.

All we need to worry about is our own points tally.

Quite. Another 6 points to be sure, probably only need 5 with goal difference, The bottom 2 on recent form aren't going to amass about 10 points each from their last 7 fixtures. I reckon we'll be safe before we kick off on the final day at Rochdale.

Yesterday's fantastic win sees us leap frog forward by another 2 points on the anticipated total moving us on to 53 points.

I think the highest points total for a team relegated from this division is Oxford United's 52.

We are damned near safe and I now strongly expect us to stay up.

If and when we do then John Sheridan and Jason Banton are strong contenders for having a statue erected in their honour.

Banton's loan spell is rapidly becoming the most effective the club has had since Tynan's legendary return in 1986.

Sheridan's last 7 matches is play-off challenging form.

Way to go brent hanging on to your beloved 'outstanding individual' while you ponced around trying to find a 'mentor' until it was almost too late to save our league status. Next time some chimpanzee sends you Emails telling you not to sack someone who the whole world can see is incompetent beyond belief best to ignore him eh?

So it begs the obvious question has Brent learned from the consequences of listening to the postman and the other superior super fans, as always it remains to be seen. The problem is now - is that Brent is completely fixed on building his hotel with commanding sea views and state of the art leisure facillities, rather than to do the right things to gain on the pitch success.
It was all so obvious that it's hardly worth talking about again, but put together an owner who loudly proclaims his ignorance of football and a player with ambitions and no experience of football management and, hey presto you get - a team struggling to stay in the football league! Easy innit! cheers

We are now on course for 55 points.

It is time to lose Pokesdown's reference points for the safe total. The current bottom 2 (York have played 43 games and have 46 points, Aldershot have played 41 games and have 43 points) are likely to beat the safe total in 4 out of the 5 years given. The meaningful total now has to be 49 points which was insufficient to keep Oxford Utd up in 2006. Perhaps more relevant would be the 52 point total achieved that year by Stockport. Or even 53. This could well be a record breaking season for the safe total.

In the real world Argyle currently have 49 points. One more win could do it. In fact we just might be safe now. Two wins and we're safe for sure.

Just thought I'd bump this thread which shows how crap supporters are at predicting anything. It goes from despair to depressing to almost optimistic euphoria, well what passes for that at Argyle. The points needed go from one extreme to the other as well. We have 52 and still mathmatically aren't safe although I doubt all of the clubs below will upset the apple cart.

We are most probably safe, although other results will still dictate if we need to sweat on the final game. There will inevitably be a lot of speculation on the future of Sheridan for what he has achieved in terms of form over the last couple of weeks. If we win one of our remaining two games, the recent form will look even more impressive.
Sheridan himself from what he says seems to be still sounding out the managerial stuff with Brent. Most fans are rightly very cynical if Brent is willing to offer Sheridan an attractive contract or provide funds to build a promotion chasing side.
I think it's 50/50 if Sheridan stays as his manager of the month profile will alert some of the league 1 or even Championship sides to his potential. Hope he stays as we have the nucleus of an improved team and clearly Sheridan has good contacts in the game and effective man management skills.
However I have no belief thet J.B will put his hand in his pocket, given the ice rink beckons. Question
