This is the third jubilee the queen's had in my lifetime, so when do I get my first? It's just not fair.

But it is going to rain pretty solidly for the four days.

Every industry blows it's trumpet if it has the opportunity... the establishment are no different... not as powerful as they once were, but obviously hoping for another decade of untold riches while everyone else is having to be 'fair' all over their neighbours. I loved the publicised 0% pay rise for the Royals last year followed by their first 'wayleave' payments for off shore energy developments to the tune of £4m pa ... new money ....... not a bad pay rise in the circumstances ... just how did these individuals get to own the sea ? .... what a strange world they live in.
It's a close run thing down my way bewtween the George football flag and the Lizzie union flag .... they're popping up out of windows now just as if Simon Cowell had demanded it.

Not my cup of tea. If other people enjoy it though that's ok. Easy enough to avoid the crap on TV and there are some decent events to go to, if it weren't for the bleddy weather.

Why?

It's alright for you DTT - you don't have the queen in Exeter do you? Think of us poor souls in Engerland who have to tug our forelocks so often it makes some of us go prematurely bald.

Are the poor people on Council Estates having street parties like what they did in '77?

As a staunch socialist with past republican leanings I shouldn't be celebrating anything. But given the f***ing shocking state of britains's 'politicians' of all colours, imagine having a clueless dickhead like cameron or a lying, murdering peice of excrement like blair as president and head of state as well as prime minister. Given the alternative I think even I'll be raising a glass to Her Majesty this weekend.

Given the language we were all treated to in other times, your 'staunch' socialism is a bit of a giveaway Freathy. lol! lol! ... I have never heard a 'republican' use that adjective.
Are you saying the monarchs of England have never gone around doing a Blair, waging war here there and everywhere ?
I think you'll find they have .... and worse. Enjoy the show .... not often your Kings and Queens get top billing these days.

Last thing every night, the Royal family pour themselves a glass of wine

and drink a toast to Wallis Simpson.

Because without her, they'd have had to go out and do a day's work now and then.

Not necessarily - in the absence of a legitimate heir Elizabeth would still have been Queen eventually
