Just announced on Sky that Bury have been expelled from the EFL.

This was done in front of a number of Bury fans (live from Gigg lane), who started shouting "feck the EFL"

The EFL Board met earlier this evening and, after a long and detailed discussion, determined that Bury FC’s membership of the English Football League be withdrawn after the deadline passed at 5pm today (Tuesday 27 August) without a successful resolution.

Despite repeated requests to its owner Mr Dale over a sustained period of time, the necessary evidence in respect of how the Club would meet its financial commitments, has simply not been provided and, as a result, attentions turned to securing new ownership at the Club.

At its meeting on 24 August 2019, the Board agreed a short extension to 5pm today (Tuesday 27 August) to enable Mr Dale and the Club to explore the possibility of a proposed sale with C&N Sporting Risk Limited, with Mr Dale having accepted their offer. Following due diligence, C&N Sporting Risk Limited opted not to pursue its interest.

Therefore, having fully considered all available options, including a number of late expressions of interest provided to the EFL, the EFL Board has unanimously determined with enormous regret that Bury’s membership be withdrawn.

The EFL Board had maintained that there could be no further suspensions to the fixture list and that these ongoing concerns and the integrity of the competition were a significant factor in the decision.

Recent events have highlighted how decisions taken at Bury FC over the last few seasons have caused the Club and individuals close to it significant financial distress and there are a number of matters which, in our view, will require further investigation.

League One will now comprise of 23 Clubs for the remainder of the campaign and relegation places in the division reduced to three, which will result in a full complement of 24 Clubs in 2020/21. A discussion will take place with EFL Clubs on the consequential impact in League Two when Clubs next meet in September 2019.

Debbie Jevans CBE, EFL Executive Chair, said: “Today is undoubtedly one of the darkest days in the League’s recent history. The EFL has worked determinedly and tirelessly to avoid this outcome and it is with a heavy heart that this situation has been forced upon us.

“The EFL has to place the integrity of our competitions at the heart of every decision we make, and we simply cannot allow this unacceptable situation to continue or countenance the prospect of postponing further fixtures.

“I understand this will be a deeply upsetting and devastating time for Bury’s players, staff, supporters and the wider community. There is no doubt today’s news will be felt across the entire football family.

“No one wanted to be in this position but following repeated missed deadlines, the suspension of five League fixtures, in addition to not receiving the evidence we required in regard to financial commitments and a possible takeover not materialising; the EFL Board has been forced to take the most difficult of decisions.”

The deal fell through 90mins before the 5pm deadline. How devastating for the fans who went to Gigg Lane this morning to clean it for Saturday's game.
I wonder what lowe, Shumacher and the ex Bury players at Argo are thinking tonight.

I expect that they are gutted, as Bury meant so much to them all.

A sad night for football indeed.

Blimey!  Really thought Bury would be OK, even at this late stage!  Terrible for the fans, staff and players of the club.  Hope they come back in some form back up through the pyramid.

I hope so too and do you know what would be a fitting gesture, a friendly at Home Park with all proceeds going to Bury. I am sure a decent crowd would turn out for such a fixture.

Lot of talk among commentators that Bury will be the first of a few more clubs to go under and soon.  They point to obviously Bolton and also Macclesfield who are facing winding up proceedings as the two most likely to go next.  Brutal and cruel time for supporters of lower league teams.

From Boltons point of view they will now be under no illusion as to what the EFL will clearly do. Salaries are killing the game

Was wondering if the Bury news before the game affected Danny Mayors performance last night, he apparently scored the last goal at Gigg Lane.

Ryan Lowe spoke about Bury on Talksport this morning (The Herald gave a summary)-

Plymouth Argyle manager Ryan Lowe is ‘absolutely heartbroken’ over former club Bury being kicked out of the EFL.

Lowe gave his reaction to Bury’s demise in an interview on talkSPORT Radio with Jim White and former England international Trevor Sinclair on Wednesday morning.

The 40-year-old led Bury to promotion from League Two in his first full season as their manager.

However, he quit to take over at Home Park in the summer, and brought five players and three members of his backroom staff with him.

News of Bury’s expulsion from the EFL came shortly after Argyle’s 4-2 Carabao Cup second round defeat by Reading at Home Park.

Lowe, who also had three spells as a Bury player, told talkSPORT: “We have had a great game last night for Argyle against Reading and we pit our wits against a top Championship club.

“Then I get home and sit on my sofa and the news breaks. It’s heartbreaking.

“My 13-year-old boy sits down and goes ‘Dad, how sad is that, we have had three promotions there?

“You become a fan, regardless as a manager and as a player, and I’m absolutely heartbroken what has happened to the football club, and for all them fans who certainly deserve a lot better.”

He also spoke about having 5 ex-Bury players and both the Data Analyst (Jimmy Dickinson) and Fitness Co-ordinator (Jon Lucas) are Bury fans and all are absolutely gutted.

Listening to Talksport overnight, couldn't sleep but

Dale bought the club for £1 that should have been 1 red flag,

If they did their research on him known asset stripper 2 red flags,

Within 10 weeks of taking over which he did in December, you are meant to prove you have the funds to run the club
as of yesterday obviously he still hasn't done that.

but its not just lower down theres problems,

In the championship some clubs are spending 106% of revenue on wages.

Sunderlands takeover was done just on parachute payments, so if they don't get promoted this year they are in trouble,

The EFL need to take a long hard look at themselves today, something needs to be done to make sure, Bolton and others aren't next.

But what can you do,

If you had a salary cap, no team that made it into the premiershite, would be able to compete and we would have the same 6 teams swapping places,

Theres 71/2 other professional teams we need to look after, not just the 20 at the top table,

There is a simple reason why he bought the club for £1 because it was fecked already, with all it's debts it's common for businesses in admin to be bought and sold for a nominal fee. All the rest of your statement I'd agree with.
The only thing to add is that if the EFL are seen to be blocking a "rescue package" they could be blamed if the club folded without a takeover being made, now the blame has been cast totally to Dale.

The buying for £1 yeah you are right, they was fecked already,

But any deal where something like that goes through,

Before the EFL rubber-stamped it, they should have made sure that the debt was guaranteed to be paid off,

There's all kinds of shit coming out now about what happened at Bury, we haven't heard the last of it,
That's for sure,

The only positive I can see atm, is the local council won't allow Gigg lane , become houses,a supermarket etc, unless another sporting facility is provided,

The Premier League do not care about the lower leagues if the truth be known. All the money that makes its way to the Premier League is obscene, they give the EFL peanuts in real terms.

Perhaps the Premier League clubs could set up an extra cash kitty fund for the EFL and donate two million pounds each per season, the EFL could then distribute that cash when it is necessary.

The EFL need to get their act sorted out and quickly, they need an overhaul.

obvously he can.

Ryan reminds me of a teenager who get their heart broken by the love of their lifes and who move on to the next love of their lives only to spend most of their time together pining for the first love.

I didn't know if there was a conflict of interest.
Being a shareholder in one team and a manger of another,

In the short term wonder if we could see more Bury players arrive here,

He did say he would have taken them all with him if he could have.
