Train fares

My boy needs to go from Plymouth to High Wycombe for an interview, looked at train prices and the cheapest we can get is about £90 and I was going to take him to Exeter cos of Dawlish.
Anybody got any tips for cheaper fares? March 31 BTW.

He's gonna cancel uni cos of two more FOOKIN huge Devon expressway derbies next year! Get a job in Nandoes innit.

If it's 90squid it's worth getting a young persons card, might cost £20-25 or so but it'll recoup that in one hit.

£30 and you get £25 off this journey. Hes going to wait until he goes to uni and get a better one apazz.

Drive

I've driven to York and back, Oxford and back in the last two weeks and I'm quite busy that day. The train would cost the same as driving really it just doesn't involve me.

Have you tried booking the tickets as 2 single fares , sometimes it comes out cheaper

Same as what Dane said, or even booking it as several journeys (Exeter to Taunton, then Taunton to wherever etc.). Or actually go into the station and talk to the ticket people. They're really good at making sure you get the cheapest ticket: sometimes simply by catching a train just a few minutes later.

Ain't public transport brilliant?

and priced for confusion. Im toying with charging my customers by the number of blades of grass in their gardens. £15 for 60,000, £75 for 60,001 and up. sound fair?

Tried booking a rail ticket several years ago in Scotland using the internet which involved two changes. The system could deal with one change but not two (in the end I drove). I can however, fly around the world if I wanted to using one of several websites and only a few clicks.

You shouldn't be expected to have to go to the station to make sure you have the cheapest ticket. Most smaller station ticket offices are only open during office hours anyway, so that would also require missing work or a rushed lunch hour.

It's 2014. The internet is 25 years old. We landed on the Moon 45 years ago. It should be a lot simpler to do this!

The previous largest shithole never to have enjoyed top flight football. Their attendance figures have usually mirrored ours until they showed some ambition and we sold out, as usual.
Holloway's team were better than them in the first half of the season they went up to the PL.

The new chairman ploughed funds into the club, allowing Little to rebuild the team. Hull occupied the Third Division promotion and play-off places for much of the 2001–02 season, but Little departed two months before the end of the season and Hull slipped to 11th place under his successor Jan Mølby.[4]
Hull began the 2002–03 season with a number of defeats, which saw relegation look more likely than promotion, and Mølby was sacked in October as Hull languished fifth from bottom in the league. Peter Taylor was named as Hull's new manager and in December 2002, just two months after his appointment, Hull relocated to the new 25,400-seater KC Stadium after 56 years at Boothferry Park.[4] At the end of the season Hull finished 13th.[6]

Hull were Third Division runners-up in 2003–04 and League One runners-up in 2004–05; these back-to-back promotions took them into the Championship, the second tier of English football.[6] The 2005–06 season, the club's first back in the second tier, saw Hull finish in 18th place, 10 points clear of relegation and their highest league finish for 16 years.[4][6]
However, Taylor left the club to take up the manager's job at Crystal Palace and Colchester United's Phil Parkinson was confirmed as his replacement, but was sacked on 4 December 2006 with Hull in the relegation zone, despite having spent over £2 million on players during the summer.[4][17] Phil Brown took over as caretaker manager,[17] and took over permanently in January 2007, having taken Hull out of the relegation zone.[18] Brown brought veteran striker Dean Windass back to his hometown club on loan from Bradford City,[19] and his eight goals helped secure Hull's Championship status as they finished in 21st place.[20]

Adam Pearson sold the club to a consortium led by Paul Duffen in June 2007, stating that he "had taken the club as far as I could", and would have to relinquish control in order to attract "really significant finance into the club".[21] Under Paul Duffen and manager Phil Brown, Hull City improved greatly on their relegation battle of 2006–07 and qualified for the play-offs after finishing the season in third place. They beat Watford 6–1 on aggregate in the semi-finals and played Bristol City in the Final on 24 May 2008, which Hull won 1–0 at Wembley Stadium, with Hull native Dean Windass scoring the winning goal.[22][23] Their ascent from the bottom division of the Football League to the top division of English football in just five seasons is the third-fastest ever.[24]

We picked up a hitch hiker on the way back from York, he'd been stuck at Worcestor services for four hours, he said hitching is hard work nowadays. I've hitched all over Britain and Europe in my day and used to love it, I don't know what everybody is so scared of. I ought really give the boy twenty quid and get him to make his own way, use it as a lesson in life.

I usually pick up hitchers. It's to pay back what I received years ago. But I do get pissed off when I discover that they simply want a lift to go 2 or 3 miles.

I've hitched thousands of miles and picked up loads of hitchers never had any trouble, a good tip is to look more like a mugger than a muggee.

Know what you mean. I have the same worry when I shop in Waitrose.

Fare dodge - whilst holding some sort of camera - if challenged he's working undercover to expose how easy fair dodging can be and then congratulates his challenger and promises to mention him very favourably in his final report to Network Rail.
