Former Plymouth Argyle striker Warren Feeney the new manager of Newport County


The 34-year-old succeeds ex-Pilgrims' boss John Sheridan, who quit Newport earlier this week to take over at League One outfit Oldham Athletic.

His first match as manager will be away to bottom-of-the-table York City on Saturday.

Newport are currently 20th in League Two, three points above the relegation zone.

Feeney said: "It was an easy choice for me. It's a dream that it has happened.

"I want to hit the ground running and get results. This is a great area and a decent club."

Feeney, who made 52 appearances for Argyle over two seasons and scored six goals, becomes Newport's fifth manager in less than 12 months.

When Sheridan was appointed by County in October he brought in Feeney – who had played for him at Home Park and as his assistant.

52 appearances and 6 goals. Jesus Christ. He's actually a decent bloke though, hope he does well.

Good luck to him he should do a good job for Newport as he did for Linfield.
