The Football League is changing its name to the English Football League following a two-month rebranding exercise.
But it has decided against renaming its three divisions after electing to retain the titles Championship, League One and League Two.
The league also unveiled what is only the fourth new logo in its 127-year history, which is in the shape of a football made up of three swathes of 24 smaller balls, representing each division and its 72 clubs.
Coming into use at the end of the season, its new name will be shortened to the EFL, in much the same way the Premier League is known internationally as the EPL.

Football League chief executive Shaun Harvey said: “In an increasingly-challenging global sports market, it is absolutely essential that sports properties can project a modern identity that not only resonates with their regular audience but is also easily recognisable to a broader audience of potential fans, viewers and commercial partners.”
He added of the three divisions – the names of which came into use 11 years ago after the Football League abolished the titles First, Second and Third Division: “The Championship, League One and League Two divisional titles have proven popular with fans since their introduction in 2004 and have since been used by leagues in other countries and in other sports. It is therefore our intention to incorporate them into the new EFL brand.”

So next season i suspect Newport and Cardiff will be kicked out the english leagues Wink the logo looks crap fwiw

Cant see Newport and Cardiff being kicked out as it would also involve Premier side Swansea.

Can't believe they didn't scrap the whole 'Championship/League One' bollox.

It sounds awful and makes no sense logically. How is League One the most sensible name they can come up with for the third tier of English football?

How is "Championship", a word reserved for the absolute pinnacle of competitions/success in many sports (Golf, Tennis etc.) the best brand name they can come up with for the second tier of English football?

The Premiership was all a load of crap really, but that branding at least made sense. The following Divisions 1, 2 and 3 followed logically.

How long until they starting rebranding the third and fourth tier as something daft like 'The Mastership' or 'the Elite League'?

Agree with ejh, the prem can call themselves whatever they want but the other three leagues should be called divisions 1, 2 and 3.

The Football league argument at the time was that "The Championship" was the original name of the  English top division. As it was the Premiership that jumped, the Football League went back to "their" top division name.
It's all a bit ocean city, a bit betamax.
I actually liked the old Division One, it was never called Division 1, ever. Didn't like the Division Three South name, all a bit P and D.
