Jamie Carragher was good value with his views on it all. "Liverpool have become Tottenham, they think they're a big club, but the real big clubs aren't at all worried about them".

He's bang on there. Even Souness said that Liverpools policy of trying to sign up the best of the available youth talent, to sell them on at a profit had only succeeded in turning Liverpool into a selling club.

You have to chortle at that. He was given every penny to reinvest, and then some.

I can't think of many players, Sturridge and Coutinho perhaps excepted (Sturridge undoubtedly good but injured constantly) that have been remotely successful.

I can understand others having an input into the signing of players, but I find it hard to believe the manager doesn't have much influence in the signing of a club's players.
