Trott pulls out of tour,"stress related illness",shades of Trescothick a few years ago.Runs the risk of being labelled as chicken after the working over Johnson gave him but if he's not 100% then i suppose the right decision is to come home.Looks like the Aussies have adopted a much more aggressive approach,Clarke fined for telling Anderson to get ready for a broken arm,Warner making some rather pointed comments about Trott.Very similar to the way Border went about things in 1989,which led to a 15 year domination of the Ashes by Australia-England need to be very strong from now on to weather the storm.

England need to be stronger mentally, the convicts playing the bully should not be allowed to affect performances, Trott's form has been poor for a long time, stress related or looking for an easy exit ? only he knows.

The Aussies are playing mind games with England clearly but i dont think that tw@t Warner had anything to do with Trott leaving.

Ian O'Brien provides as stunningly insightful a description of mental illness and the impact of that upon playing sport in the public eye as I've ever heard. I listened to it earlier live and was gripped.

If you're interested listen from about 50mins.

I'll be watching until lunch then get about 4 hours kip until my lad wakes up and watch the final session.

England need to boss the first day or Australia will trample them again. Showers predicted so will be good to bowl first and take advantage of the conditions,

Nah although they're called England it's really a British side Very Happy

3 quick wickets just before tea but Monty's just dropped a caught and bowled chance and Australia are pushing on again 209-4

273-5 not bad on a really good batting pitch but England dropped a couple of easy catches which would've meant they were into the tail first thing tomorrow.

More like an international side, how many of them were actually born in England ? we're getting like the irish footy team where anybody who's ever drunk a pint of guinness qualifies to play for them  alien
I only made it until about 2.20am when it was 50/1, seems like we ended the day OK though, hopefully we can steam straight into them tonight and get them all out for less than 350.

England are getting annihilated and there would appear to be no way back for them against an Australian team brimming with belief and aggresssion.England's attack is popgun in comparison to the 90mph plus rockets being fired at them,Anderson is a pale shadow of the bowler of the past few years, two spinners ineffectual,Broad the only consistent threat. You have to worry about the effect that captaincy is having on Cook-almost total failure now for the past 7 tests with the bat.Don't like the way they are dealing with the off the field stuff either-pathetic,petulant attempt to ignore the Aussie media at some airport the other day-didn't come across at all well and reeks of Goochiesulks.Come what may,a shake up will need to take place after this tour, both at management and playing level,England's negative cricket almost landed them in serious bother last summer and now chickens have very much come home to roost.

On that Cook wicket the ashes are going back to the Aussies. England are a mess.

A draw is still very achievable here but England need to bat as though their lives depend on them not losing their wicket.

Australia are a completely different side to the one we beat in the summer, and there were signs of them improving as the summer Ashes went on. Mitchell Johnson and Harris are bowling so much faster than England and as well as bowling fast they're bowling accurately and menacingly.

Not sure what's happened to Anderson but at times he's struggling to reach 80mph, just like Tremlett did in the first test, and that's powder puff to the Aussies on their own tracks.

I get that the pitch might turn so Panesar gets a game but he is an embarrassment as a fielder and there is no room in modern cricket for such a liability on the pitch. You can hit the ball towards him safely knowing there's always a run and sometimes two because he's almost afraid of the ball. I wouldn't trust him to catch a cold.

Someone needs to make a big score today and realistically it needs to be two players scoring hundreds because Carberry doesn't impress me, Prior is woefully out of form and Stokes is on debut so that's pressure in itself. That leaves Bell, Root and Pietersen who need to make big contributions just to ensure we reach 400+ which will still leave a deficit.
