No - I had a smaller shareholding (wish I would have phrased that better!).

I paid £250k - Tony paid £500k and Tony, Paul, Robert, Phil and Nick split the other £250k.

Ah that's where my misunderstanding has arisen - I assumed, wrongly, that the £250k you paid was the full amount Jones received.
