Good luck, from what I gathered in my very quick convo with said friend they have just been filming, I don't know if it's a major event or their own promo, I think he said it was the story of the Fishermens friends. Good to see them back singing they stopped for ages because one of them died. He did tell a funny story that they were thrown out of a pub in Newcastle because the  pub didn't have an entertainment licence and they had a good old sing song. He said the landlord was shouting that he didn't have the correct permission for them to sing at which they notched up the volume whilst a couple of them did the old "what, speak up mate we can't hear you!" he said they made a dignified exit singing Australia at the loudest volume he's ever heard it. Booties.

There you go, it's a proper film.

Where you in the world then Moisty? Had another twelve decent mackerel on feathers off the rocks again, my mate wanted some for his party and they went down very well with homemade salsa verde, mint, coriander, onion, garlic, chili, oil and vinegar, bleddy andsome.
Talking to a mate at the party last night and he had ten bass in the Tamar, two of them keepers, caught on lug. Have a trip planned with him, he's got a lovely 28 with a 70hp diesel on a mooring in the Tamar. He had a trip down to Fowey in the autumn and caught over sixty whiting between 2 and 4 1/2lb in a couple of hours on feathers. He said after a while the feathers were all worn off and they were catching on bare hooks! He stopped fishing when they had filled a few boxes he said they were still coming as fast as ever. Got home and sold the lot to the pubs and restaurants and got a hundred quid each. Thats good fishing.

We had a go in the docks over the weekend, 3 of us on and off, whilst delivering fuel to various ships.

2 small whiting, a few pouting, a small Thornback, first I have seen for years, a couple of Dogs and a 11.5 lb bass,

Anchored off Poole now, a few Mackerel, a few decent Black Bream, a lovely little Gurnard, a few small Scad and a load of Doggies.

Anchored off the Breakwater tomorrow night, update to follow.

We used to fish 'The Stack' at Morgan Porth for Small-Eyeds on live eel. Stunning setting up there. Feather for a few mackerel as the sun sets, then live eel for the Ray after dark.

Probably the closest I've ever come to dying down there. Climbing back up after unhooking a Ray my mate had landed. 30 seconds earlier and I would have been engulfed by a freak wave that pounded the rocks well above where I was stood. That North Cornish coast is stunning but can be deadly, especially fishing at night.

Me and my two dogs got washed off the slab at Trebarwith a few years ago, we were easily twenty feet above the swell range (it was only about four feet at the time) a couple of big sets doubled up and bang! I could see it coming for a long time but had no where to go, in we went, luckily it was summer and not cold if it was winter I would probably not be here now. You can see how the grockles get caught.

Walked the dog down at Saltram this morning when the tide was coming in, thousands of Mullet cruising around just below the surface all the way along beside the footpath..never seen as any in one place in my life.

My boat is moored down Pomphlett creek & when the tide comes back in the big Mullet follow it in feeding. Plenty of big ones around 4 or 5lb amongst them.

Not for me , no.

Some fancy chefs will have it on their menu as a 'special' and do something with it. But for a plentiful fish it ain't widely eaten, which tells it's own story. It thrives around sewers feeding on shit - and doesn't taste much better!

Yes, Grey Mullet. Apparently they taste better than they used to years ago since the sewage outfalls into the rivers have been stopped. Fetch good money on the market now.

When you could drift net the Exe in the 80s had 16st of them in one tide think I got about £3,50 a st.
The bonus was the ones that jump weirs
Not a great fish to eat always got rid of them though .
Bass always made good £££££ in them days ,1989 was the last year of netting in the estuary was great part time money though

I went spear gunning with my snorkel out near Start Point yesterday and today, loads of really big Ballan Wrasse, didn't see any Bass but I nearly had a shot at a five pound Mullet feeding on the weed on the reef, personally I don't mind Mullet if caught in good sea water, if caught in muddy estuaries they do taste earthy IMO. It's the first time I've ever dived there and not seen a crab, usually plenty of spiders about.

A couple of hours on the boat yesterday afternoon, pretty breezy S E so we stayed in by Bovi just off the eastern channel, not a single Macky but had a small Codling and a Small Squid, that's what I love about fishing you never know what you might see.
This evening on the shore in the Tamar having a crack at the Bass feeding on the tiny shrimp along the edges as the tide ebbs, there's some big fish there but can be frustrating as you have to fish right on top of the fish with light gear and they are easily spooked.
