Salary Cap Empty
PostSubject: Salary Cap   Salary Cap EmptyWed May 02, 2012 7:38 am

Its set to remain at 55% of turnover next season. Don't know how it will affect Exeter as League 1 clubs have been allowed a 75% salary cap (set to move to 65% next season). If clubs go over the salary cap clubs face a transfer embargo.

I'm still not entirely clear as to what comprises the salary cap. Does the repayment of outstanding wages from the Administration period get included? Signing-on fees? Loan fees? I think I've got a question for the Club's owner Very Happy

Exeter's budget for next season was being slashed anyway - I think I saw somewhere that they were working with a playing budget of £800,000. With a squad of 20, thats an average annual individual salary of £40,000 (£770 per week). Not the sort of figure that'll have new faces queueing up at Sid James Park to sign contracts.

And does the salary cap make allowance for the, in effect, reduced prices for season tickets?

As it stands the Salary Cap is a total waste of time and is breached by any club that is prepared to breach it.

Argyle should have an financial advantage over other clubs even allowing for financing the football debt. I hope they spend well and wisely.

This makes Torquay's achievements this season even better. To be where they are on comparatively tiny crowds & budget is incredible.

The sad fact is that clubs like Torquay will never sustain their good season for long and neither will clubs like Exeter. Without being Billy Bigbollox, the only club in Devon who can sustain promotion is Argyle with or without a salary cap. If we make it then we have a good chance of cementing the rise but Torquay will be back down again sooner rather than later which I regret as a Devonian.
