FA Cup 2nd Round Empty
PostSubject: FA Cup 2nd Round   FA Cup 2nd Round EmptyFri Dec 03, 2021 1:38 pm

Here we go again, on the TV once more, another 12.15 Sunday kick off, potentially tricky tie at Rochdale, with the weather possibly being a factor.

Should win, but won't be easy.

Will Ennis get back for some game time, possibly Cooper will be back as well. Will Lowe play a strong side or rest a couple, given 2 difficult away games to come?

So many questions!

Play a strong side. Need the win for confidence reasons, and more money in the coffers...

I think it could be time to give M Cooper and Jephcott a bit of time out.

As soon as Ennis is match-fit, can’t see Jephcott getting any 1st team starts.

Nor do I, I do think he’s fitter this year but he seems to be thinking a bit more rather than doing what he used to do instinctively

I think we could well lose this quite spectacularly. In fact I think we'll be free to concentrate solely on trying to stop our slide down the division after tomorrow.

Defender James Bolton and striker Niall Ennis will be part of the Plymouth Argyle squad for the FA Cup second round tie away to Rochdale on Sunday after recovering from long-term injuries.

Clubs can name up to nine substitutes in the competition - using a maximum of five of them - and both Bolton and Ennis will be on the bench for the Pilgrims at the Crown Oil Arena.

It is the first time that Bolton, a summer signing from League One rivals Portsmouth, has been part of a matchday squad for Argyle after suffering an ankle injury early in pre-season.

Manager Ryan Lowe has been impressed by the way that Bolton has looked in training this week but is unlikely to call upon him just yet.

His inclusion in the squad against Rochdale is more to get him used to feeling properly part of the Pilgrims' set-up.

Ennis has been training for the past couple of weeks after recovering from the hamstring injury he suffered in the warm-up before the season-opening 2-0 League One defeat at Rotherham United on August 7.

The 22-year-old could get some game time against Rochdale depending on the circumstances of the cup clash.

The return of Bolton and Ennis comes at a good time for Argyle who have three successive away games in seven days, starting at Rochdale and followed by league games against MK Dons next Wednesday and Sunderland a week on Saturday.

Lowe said: "The two of them will be on the bench Sunday. James has trained all week with us. I'm really pleased for him. He's physically a specimen, Niall is the same.

"We have to be careful with them. With it being nine subs on Sunday, the two of them will be in the squad and on the bench.

"It helps to get them back in the fold. It will be nice for Bolts to come with us and travel with us and see what it's like because he hasn't seen any of it the way we do it and how we go about our business on the away trips.

"Niall, his last one was the first game of the season. It's nice to have them with us but to have them on the bench as well it shows them they are nearly there.

"Niall has trained now for the past two weeks. He could play a part potentially. Bolts might be a week off.

"Next week is a tough one as well because of all the travel so he will stay with us all that time. He will travel with us and we will probably get some more training into him throughout that week.

"I'm really pleased to have them with us, but we won't just put them on for the sake of it. If they are needed we will but we have got nine subs we can use."

Ennis signed a two-and-a-half year contract with Argyle when he joined them from Wolverhampton Wanderers in January.

He went on to score six goals in 18 starts and six substitute appearances before the end of the campaign and his form in pre-season had led to him being selected in the starting line-up at Rotherham, only for injury to then cruelly hit him.

Lowe said: "It has been four months. We thought we would have him back in January but he's back now. Niall won't be rushed.

"He's champing at the bit. Every time I see him he's 'I'm training today Gaffer'. He's that bubbly lad. It will be nice for him to get back.

"He has been on fire in training to be fair to him. We are just happy to have Niall back fit. He's not a million miles away but he's not there either.

"He's still a bit rusty in certain areas so we have got to make sure we get that out of him. But if he's called upon and if needed then we will certainly look at it."

It is the FA Cup and league form is not so relevant - but Lowe will play a strong side and Argyle should prevail. Pain in the arse it's a 12.15 KO had stuff planned for tomorrow.
COYG cheers

The irony is the majority there tomorrow supporting the greens wouldn't be able to get tickets if we draw Everton away in the next round

1 or 3 need sectioning on ATD but sod all to do with football

Absolutely fair play to anyone that has gone. My lad is albeit not too far for him from Nottingham.

I reckon Lowe will have them seriously fired up, Despite losing 3 in a row we're still only 2 points off top and this sort of Cup game can put us back on track for next league game
