Sad to hear of the passing of Tony Waiters who was Argyle Manager in the early 1970's

As well as leading the team to a League Cup semi final and promotion out of the old Third Division, he was the man who bought Paul Mariner to the Club from non league Chorley

He was also responsible for creating a youth recruitment structure at the Club that discovered several players who as well as playing for Argyle, went on to play in the top flight.

He also lead Canada to a World Cup Finals tournament

Probably the best Manager the Club ever had.

Just before my time, but there can be no doubt as to his place in the pantheon of great Argyle managers. The term 'legend' is thrown about far too often it can become meaningless, but this is not the case for Tony Waiters, one of the true legends of our club.

Part of who we are today is because of what he did for us back then.

RIP Mr Waiters.

As Grovey has stated, a visionary manager who would have taken Argyle to the top division had he received the backing to build around Mariner rather than having to sell. Very distinguished football person both pre and post Argyle, England international goalkeeper and coach at Liverpool and to the England youth team-think he won the NASL with Vancouver and certainly managed the Canadian team to the 1986 world cup, the only time it's ever happened. Some fantastic memories of his time here, a spectacular escape from relegation after he joined with the team rock bottom, Santos, the run to the League cup semi final and then promotion the year after. That was the time for him to have been backed but it all turned sour, still think it was wrong to sack him with 4 games to go though. RIP Tony and thanks for the wonderful memories.

Just before my time too.
My first game was in the Mike Kelly era.
A successful manager in spite of the club, in much the same way as Holloway was. RIP Tony.
