Argyle's 'impartiality' Empty
PostSubject: Argyle's 'impartiality'   Argyle's 'impartiality' EmptyThu Jan 11, 2018 2:26 pm

As previously posted, I'm doing a one-off fanzine raising money for grassroots football.

I was due to have an article by the recently formed Argyle Pride, about their important work of raising awareness of the LGBT community within the Argyle fanbase and beyond. However, as they are an official arm of Argyle they've had to withdraw the article as they have to 'remain impartial' as they view my work as 'overly political.'

Interesting as the club's official twitter account follows local Tory politicians, but doesn't follow the Argyle supporting Labour MP Luke Pollard. How impartial.

It's sad that the club attempt to disrupt an independent fanzine, especially when it stop the important message of inclusivity in football. Quite self-defeating.

There'll be elements in there. The content is pretty mixed, got a feature of Paddy Ratcliffe from the 40s/50s, interview with Woody (Bastille's drummer), photographic feature on Argyle fans, bit about Michael Foot and Argyle and general pieces from Argyle fans.

It's not going to have Jezza Corbyn on the cover holding the little red book shouting 'vote Labour' on it.

Obviously Argyle are so proud of "Argyle Pride" they haven't bothered to 'come out' and publicly announce their support yet.

Yet another pointless exercise in political correctness.

Can't really see the point in producing a 'fanzine' containing political elements. As soon as you do, it ceases to be a fanzine.

I agree with that. A bit like owning a football club, while containing political elements.

Surely the point of a fanzine is that it contains what you want as opposed to what anybody else might want you to?

I tend to agree that going on about GDP or macro-economic policy is an unusual thing to find in a football fanzine but if it has a slant towards the game then why not?

As an example I just saw this on FB:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

OK it is only a programme but 6d would now be 2.5p. Inflation since 1966 would make 6d equal to 45p now. Isn't the going rate for a programme now £3?

Would that spill over into politics?

perhaps, however the market will charge what the market will bear, Captain wankspasm would tell you that £3 for an Argyle programme is cheap, and well done PAFC.......

Who made you the definer of a fanzine? I'll make a fanzine, the choice is yours whether to buy it or not. Stupid comment.

You seem to be suggesting that £3 is fine because the market will bear it. I don't see much fundamental difference between you and Capt W. if you both think it is OK.

In the end, anything in print or online these days has to be a good read, whatever the content or leaning. A little readdressing of the present regime wouldn't go amiss. The AFT had a chance to do that with a fanzine but that never really transpired. Nor sure why.
As for match days programs, I have never ever bought one, and never will. They are just too corny and Charles Buchan. I don't have an Argyle duvet either.
