Stevenage v Plymouth Argyle

Man in the middle ROSS JOYCE     Games 13 YELLOWS 56 REDS 3

Assisted by Christopher Husband and Nicholas Cooper

Fourth Official Alan Young

Stevenage news

Stevenage welcome league leaders Plymouth Argyle to The Lamex Stadium this Saturday 8th October and tickets are on sale now!

After starting the season with a couple of defeats, the Pilgrims have since reacted in near-perfect style, winning seven of their eight league games and creating a five point advantage at the top of the table.

That said, their record at The Lamex Stadium is poor with two defeats in the last two vistits. That includes last year's 2-1 Boro win where goals from Connor Ogilvie and Chris Whelpdalet sent them home pointless.

Nicky Shorey has joined the coaching team.

The 35-year old former Reading, West Brom and Portsmouth left-back made over 460 appearances during his career, including eight years at the Madejski Stadium where he represented England on 2 occasions.

Carpark and Transport

Supporters attending Saturday's Sky Bet League 2 home game against Plymouth Argyle are advised of limited parking due to the presence of Circus Wonderland at Fairlands Valley.

The circus is present opposite the stadium until Sunday 9th October and has performances on Saturday at 2pm and 5pm, meaning parking will be extremely limited for football fans.

With parking restrictions in place in surrounding retail parks, it is suggested fans park in one of the town centre pay and display car parks and hop on board our match day shuttle bus service from either Stevenage railway station or Stevenage bus station, which costs just £1 return.

Argyle news

Gary Sawyer out for three months, no news on Paul-Arnold Garita, surprise Karleigh Osborne did not have any mins on the field of play on Tuesday, No news on Oscar Threlkeld injuries he received on Tuesday.

Update on injury list

but there was less positive new about several Pilgrims, we heard about long term of left-back Gary Sawyer, who has already missed six games since picking up an injury at Blackpool.

“Sawyer took a set back and will be out for 12 weeks now,” said Derek. “He’s going in for an operation next week; it’s an abductor problem. We are very disappointed; he’s an experienced left-back and for him to be out for that period of time isn’t going to be easy.”

“Oscar Threlkeld took a knock to the knee on Tuesday night and we shall see how he is for Saturday’s game.

“Arnold Garita will be back with us on Monday; he is progressing well. He had a slight setback to his injury but will be back in full training on Monday.”

Tickeks still avaiable for this game online or ticket office

Ian Holloway

Plymouth are on a roll: go on the boys! I tipped them at the start of the season to go up and they've not let me down. They look like a team that have learnt a lot from last season. To take 25 points from 11 games is immense. They are already the team to catch. Graham Carey got marked out of the play-off final last season against AFC Wimbledon but he's started the season with real momentum. He's the best player in League Two and can open the scoring in an away win.

OLLIE PREDICTS: 0-2

Darren Sarll ahead of Plymouth visit: 'I'm fed up of people talking about Stevenage as low end'

Darren Sarll was in defiant mood ahead of the visit of league leaders Plymouth Argyle to the Lamex Stadium tomorrow.

Argyle have the best record away from home in League Two and sit five points clear at the top of the table, but the Stevenage manager wants opposition clubs to start respecting his players. He knows it'll be a tough test but is confident his side have the quality to trouble the visitors.

"I'm fed up of people thinking and talking about Stevenage as low end club," stated Sarll. "My club isn't low end, my club is top end. It's a top half club definitely, absolutely.

"The players we've got here are top half and I want the whole world, especially our division, to start looking at us in that way. Every programme note I've read lately says, Stevenage are around us or Stevenage down with us and it really, really gets to me."

But Sarll was full of praise for the job Derek Adams has done at Argyle, especially with the large turnover of players the Devon club faced over the summer. Since losing their two opening games against Luton and Carlisle, Adams' side haven't tasted defeat since with eight wins and a draw in nine games.

The boss knows that Adams and his coaching staff will be more than aware of the threat his side pose. He added: "We've got some good players and Derek will know that. It sounds very arrogant but Derek's a very intelligent man and he'll know that.

"They're a good side and very methodical, which comes from a very methodical and intelligent manager. For him to go on this run after replacing what he has had to replace in the off-season and to replenish it how he's replenished it, he absolutely deserves his manager of the month award. I've got a lot of respect for Derek and his coaching staff.

"We had two really good games against them last year. In terms of the way performances went as well, so I'm looking forward to it. I always look forward to games at the Lamex, regardless of who we had last and regardless of the Exeter performance and result. I really, really look forward to playing at home especially against some good sides. We beat Luton and Hartlepool who are both terrific sides and we've got some good players and I really want people to see that."

The independent Stevenage FC blog

And Now For Something Completely Different…

It’s one to tell the grandkids, at least. It’s perhaps even our generation’s own JFK moment; to be able to say where you were when Brighton U23s outdid Stevenage on pelanties in the Checkatrade kickabout. Now the future of the England team is all tickety-boo, however, we must return to League Two action. And it’s been a while, to be fair like. After the wash-out at Newport last week, it is almost going to take some getting used to. Plymouth Argyle, therefore, are to be our staging post. And guess what. There they are, top of the division.

It’s too early to tell if Argyle are going too hard too soon. That will have to wait until the final reckonings next spring. But, for now, the Devon Nation Army are five points clear and are looking strong. It’s nearly two whole months since our guests came second in the two-horse race that is a league fixture. It’s nearly a month, on the flip side, since we came first. Our task at hand, therefore, is a stark contrast to our last three outings – not to include our trip to Soggy South Wales. This is as hard a task as any side who isn’t top could possibly get.

Let’s do some bare naked facts, shall we? Plymouth Argyle are a) unbeaten in nine, b) peerless away from their own turf at the moment and c) as mean as a mothertrucker in keeping the ball out of their net on the road. In five away from home – the lesser known Enid Blyton book – Arygle have only let in two. TWO. In a quirk of fate, facts and full-blown figures, our attacking record indoors is better than their attacking record indoors. But we ain’t playing at Home Park, thankfully. Three adventures to the wild west in three fixtures would be overkill.

Boro’ go into this one looking to make it a hattrick of home wins over Argyle. Even Teddy bagged a win against this lot last term, outdoing them in a 2-1 triumph. And that, if nothing else, must count as a good omen when the ex-Manchester Hotspur, England United and Tottingham SEOs striker masterminded one of his rare wins at their expense. Of course, we’re not that naive. This is a different prospect – even though Plymouth were up there when they came to us in September 2015. It’s all hands to the pump here – we’re up against a good ‘un.

I went to this game last season, to tick off the ground from my list.
Lost 2-1.
Another trip more memorable for the journey/people I travelled with, than the actual match.
Nevermind, today is another day. Let's hope for a positive result.

Yep another unbelievable win for DA. If he can do that with a bunch of mediocre players....

He must be top of more than a few clubs' wanted lists now.
