James DeGale beats Andre Dirrell on points to make history

James DeGale beat Andre Dirrell on points to claim the vacant IBF super-middleweight belt and become the first Briton to win Olympic gold and a professional world title.
Londoner DeGale, 29, Olympic champion in 2008, put Dirrell on the mat in the second round with a devastating left.
American Dirrell, 31, made a remarkable recovery and landed shots on a tiring DeGale as the match went on.
But a late DeGale flurry secured a unanimous decision in Boston, USA.

Very rare for a British fighter to win in the States.

Well done, James DeGale

DeGale won by the skin of his teeth in truth by 2 points in fact and thats including a Canadian judge who clearly didnt watch the fight who scored way in James's favour.

He started off strong, scored 2 knock downs but never really went in for the kill after that. Dirrell fought back after the 6th round and looked like he was going to win it due to work rate and punches landed.

james deserved to win the fight in fairness but it wasnt a strong performance at all nor could anyone really complain if he didnt win it was that close a fight, i can see a remach down the line for these two. Certainly not going to encourage Froch/Abraham, Ward or even Groves into big money bouts with him anytime soon based on that performance.
