Brentford will put out their reserves, guessing (rightly) that we won't be able to take advantage. Given this I don't think the defeat will be that bad.

Yep it'll be Brentford yoof/reserves with a couple of first team regulars on the bench as back up in case the unthinkable happens. Argo need to give the injury returnees game time today and also give some of the youngsters a run out. It's a good job we need to go out of this competition today!

Just seen today's team. No Hardie, Obafemi or Houghton in the squad. Is Hardie injured or.....? Baidoo starts and Puchacz on the bench.

a cup upset :O we are in the 4th round of the cup.

i wonder if it was a case of both teams not caring about a cup run given the starting 11's both put out and Argyle nicking it at the depth.

lets get a home tie against one of the big 6.

Who says we can't defend?

Hope this goal/win gives MW a fillip to get back to his best form.

And BBC 5 Live saying Palsson was "outstanding!"

What an end to a weird week!

Now that is a fecking good result, probably one of the best in the clubs FA cup history. There were a lot of Brentford players on the pitch who played in the team which panned Southampton last week and you could say that Argyle didn't start with the team which would necessarily have started a league game. Sounds like a great away performance and, much as it pains to say it because i liked the bloke, you have to wonder where Argyle would have been with a competent manager other than Rooney in charge. Credit to Edkivell for obviously setting the team up to be disciplined and organised and much for the new man to be encouraged by.

its taken over a year to win away from home but nance and edwards have worked it out finally that you need to be conservative away from home with our style of football and not so gung ho as we are starting to get results setting up like we have done recently away from home. Wouldn't have been a bad idea to keep nance and joe in the role as interim head coach and assistant till the end of the season imo poss with an addition or two to help out in the coaching ranks.

Hope it continues in the league under the new boss. Get joe Edwards on all the coaching courses poss i can see him being a good coach in the future hopefully for us in some capacity when he hangs up his boots.

We have passed through into some alternate universe where Argo can defend, win and win away! Maybe they should have given the gig to Nance and Joe until the end of the season! Just had to be MW10!! I really hope this kicks start the season after the Rooney nightmare.

Thankyou seadog. Didnt free chat all thought schumacher was appointed too so im told lmao never been in that group but i wonder if there was backtracking on a par like there was on pasoti last night lol.

i've watched a few games live in belgium over the years ive even watch the brugge derby Cercle muslic's old team vs Club brugge and the standard isn't high in fact that derby is meant to be fierce and the stadium was half empty for a league game and they both share that stadium!!!! it ended 2-2 with some suicidal defending from both teams not sure if the new guy was managing at the time but scott parker was for club brugge reunion for both if he was in charge at the time in a couple of weeks when burnley are in town.

as i said in my first post back i do have my doubts but i will give him a chance got no choice in the matter too much at stake not too.

Sjefke van Beneden

Another early start for The Belgian Greens East Flemish Plastics Chapter but a home game for us with the short journey from Gent.
No sign of Miron Muslic on our Eurostar so I guess he is already in London.
Having watched his career at Cercle Brugge and some of the players he developed and sold, I am excited at what he could do for Argyle.
Cercle have been perennial relegation fighters with crowds of around 7 to 8k, but for the last couple of years they have been punching way above their weight and even got through to the last 16 of the Conference League ahead of AA Gent, who I follow.
They played some exciting football, reminiscent of Kevin Keegan's time at Newcastle with high scoring games and late winners (a last minute goal to beat Gent 4:3 was quite painful). There has been a great spirit at the club and this was evident whenever they played.
I know the former Chairman of Cercle and he told me that we definitely have a good one!
The Belgian football model typically relies on clubs unearthing gems and selling them on to clubs in England, France, Germany and increasingly the USA.
Cercle have bought/ developed some great players over the last couple years and sold them for significant amounts of money - something which Argyle need to start emulating. Muslic has also played a lot of the younger players and I believe that they had the youngest squad in the Pro League at one point.
Muslic has been blessed with some great goal scorers in what has been their most successful period in their history.  Kevin Denkey (the Tommy Tynan of Flanders) scored 27 goals last season and was the top scorer in the Jupiler Pro League.
Some recent player sales
Kevin Denkey - sold in Dec to Cincinnati for €15m
Jesper Daland - sold to Cardiff for around €4.5m
Dino Hotic - free to Lech Poznan (Bosman) but really good
Ayasa Ueda - sold to Feyenoord for €8m
Oliver Deman - sold to Werder Bremen for €4m
This season has been disappointing but they are still only 9 points off the Play Offs and have been fighting on 2 fronts with the League and Europe.
In one European game the club forced Muslic to play a weakened team in Iceland (they lost) to focus on the league and this caused a lot of friction with the fans.
The general consensus with Cercle fans is that he should have been given more time - he remains incredibly popular with much of the fan base, but football as ever remains a results game.
As Ral Donner sang - "You don't know what you've got until you lose it", but now it is on to Argyle

Argo No 21 in the 4th round draw. It goes without saying we will definitely be drawn away to a Championship team. My bet is Leeds or Burnley.
