As birthdays go, Will Jenkins-Davies’ 17th will be one he’ll remember for a long time, as the teenage midfielder has signed his first professional contract with the club.

Will, who has been at Argyle since he was seven years old, was understandably delighted to have put pen to paper and sign for the club he supports.

He said, “I can’t quite believe it to be honest. It’s a dream to say that I am a pro for this amazing football club.”

The midfield prospect has already had a memorable season so far, making his Argyle debut in the Papa John’s Trophy against Newport County AFC in August and then making his Home Park bow against Swindon Town a month later.

A regular performer for Darren Way’s under-18 side, Will has very much caught the eye of first team boss Ryan Lowe.

As well as the Papa John’s Trophy appearances, he has also been named in two Sky Bet League One matchday squads away to Lincoln City and Oxford United.

“I am happy to have made an impression on him and he has been telling me to stay focussed and to keep working hard,” said Will.

“The lads have been really good with me too, and it’s been great being on the bench a couple of times to experience what a matchday really feels like and how much goes into every detail of the game.

“I hope to integrate into the squad more and just get more experience and hopefully make my league debut too.”

As well as excelling in a Green shirt, Will has also represented his counrty, playing for Wales at under-16 and under-18 level.

He possesses terrific technical ability on the ball, has an eye for a pass and is something of a set piece specialist.

His freekick against AFC Bournemouth under-18s in the EFL Youth Alliance League won the LFE Online Goal of the Month for September, underlining his talent.

Whilst this is understandably great news for Will, he is determined to make sure that he repays the faith shown in him by Lowe and continues to develop as a player.

“I have worked hard and just want to keep on working and keep continuing to show that I am worthy to be here,” said Will.

“This club is all I have known, coming up through the ranks in the Academy.

“The most difficult thing is staying in the squad, you can get in there but if you don’t perform, the next minute you could be out.

“I just want to stay in the squad and continue being an Argyle player.”

Congratulations Will and happy birthday.

well done Will. I trust the club will keep him involved in the Academy side for the rest of the season too so he keeps playing matches in lieu of us having a reserve side (stupid as that is) and not just sitting on the first team bench hoping for a break.
