What a peculiar signing. I thought you'd be trying to sign better players than someone who's just been relegated from League One himself. Are you building a team just to survive League Two, rather than building a team to get out of League Two?

Rotherham have just paid £500,000 plus add-ons for a player relegated from league one. Peculiarity abounds.

The defence certainly raised some questions last season, time will tell whether Edwards is the answer.

It appears he's mainly played for Walsall as a midfielder, that makes more sense.

JOE Edwards has become the first Argyle signing of the Ryan Lowe era.

The former Bristol City and Yeovil Town defender comes to Home Park after three seasons with Walsall.

Joe, 28, who can play full-back or midfield, joins former Yeovil team-mate Joel Grant at Home Park, and was also at Bristol City at the same time as Ryan Taylor.

Excluding the Admin period, last years defence was collectively the most shite I've ever had the misfortune to watch for a complete season.

They shipped 80 goals because collectively, they truly were/are shite. I wouldn't have any of them as first choice next year, even in League 2.

What's encouraging is that their fans (Walsall) all seem pretty gutted he's gone.

I see him being used more in the midfield after reading up on him. Not sure what kind of player he is so im looking forward to witnessing his abilities come start of the season.

Looks like he can play in a number of positions-

ARGYLE manager Ryan Lowe believes his side have acquired a jack of all trades after bagging his first summer capture, midfielder Joe Edwards, on Thursday.

Edwards, who was most recently at Walsall, was eager to sign on at Argyle and he is one that Ryan was pleased to get finalised.

“The fans can expect a little Trojan in the middle of the park, he covers the pitch quite well,” said Ryan. “He’s an acquisition that we fought hard to get, we had him lined up for a while, so we were pleased the minute he said yes.

“One, Joe is a leader. Two, he’s a good footballer, and three, he’s a good lad. He’s a good midfielder who can go and receive the ball off the centre-backs and the 'keeper also. He is a midfielder who is very experienced in that role.

“He can play left wing-back, right wing-back, a three in midfield, not just a sitting one. He is versatile and one we wanted to get over the line because he can play a few positions for us.”

Joe is familiar with these parts, having captained Yeovil, and was part of the Glovers side that earned promotion to the Championship in 2013. His experience is something the manager can count on in what is sure to be throughout an arduous Sky Bet League Two campaign.

He said: “He has got some appearances under his belt, he’s had a couple of promotions, he knows what it looks like.“

Promotions aside, the Gaffer is impressed by his fitness levels, as he slotted into the first day of pre-season, and was among the front of the queue in the running drills, despite the fact he endured a knee injury recently at Walsall.

Lowe said: “No [we are not concerned about the injury] because we did the medical and put him through the run of the mill. Paul the physio and the doctor were quite happy with it.

“I think he’s played 86 games since that injury, so there was no concern over that. He’s fit, he’s covered probably 10-12km out there today, so we know what Joe gives us. We know what he’s about, he’s a leader, he’s fit - one of the fittest lads in the team, and he’s proved that this morning “

Ipswich seem to think Mayor has signed for them, hopefully it’s social media bollox, then I always thought he’d be a long shot, if true it’s a shame as he is a very good player
