Plymouth Argyle’s out-of-favour winger Lionel Ainsworth has returned from a trial with Scottish Premiership side Livingston.

Livingston boss Gary Holt has yet to decide whether to take his interest in 31-year-old Ainsworth any further, according to his Argyle counterpart Derek Adams.

Ainsworth will be allowed to leave Home Park during the January transfer window after 18 months at the club.

During that time, Ainsworth has made a total of 26 appearances, although only six of them have been starts.

Livingston are currently in seventh spot in the Scottish Premiership after securing promotion last season.

Adams said: “Lionel Ainsworth has been up there for a week’s training but Livingston haven’t decided if they are going to take him as yet.”

Ainsworth lined up for Argyle’s South West Peninsula League side in a 3-1 away win against Helston Athletic on Saturday.

He has played only twice for the first team this term, and one of those matches was in the Checkatrade Trophy.

His only League One appearance came as a late substitute in the 3-2 home defeat by Doncaster Rovers in September.

Ainsworth knows the Scottish football scene after spending four seasons at Motherwell before signing for Argyle in the summer of 2017.

Always thought if he was actually given a chance more than an odd few late substitute appearances then he might have been an ok player. Seen him in a lot of reserve/peninsular games and thought he looked very sharp.

Was less than average on his first spell so I'm with you on this one. Why bring him back?

The story over Wylde and it came from apparently someone close to Graham Carey was that he told Adams he would resign a 2 year contract if Wylde was likewise given a 2 year deal obviously on less money
Now that originated from a serving Police officer but there can be no logical reason otherwise for Adams to sign him for 1 year let alone 2

and add to that bob when Millwall signed him they sussed him out in about a week knowing they made a mistake couldn’t get rid of him quick enough to Northampton on loan and they didn’t want him either after the loan when they realised he was shit as well Very Happy

I expect the only reason GC hasn't yet left is because he doesn't want to give up the wife of the Saltash captain he started banging after the friendly last season.

Wylde to Millwall was a strange one. But they must have atleast seen a little something or potential somewhere. After all DA is renowned for not getting the best out of some players, only have to look at the likes of Mellor who was utter garbage for us then started banging goals in for fun at Blackpool.
