Oxford Team News

They have now slipped to 13th in the Sky Bet League One table and concerns are rising about the prospect the Oxford could be dragged into a relegation battle.

Caretaker manager Fazackerley did not shy away from the situation and knows the priority is to reach the 50-point safety mark as quickly as possible.

The home game against Plymouth is one that’s becoming almost a must-win. The players and the crowd sense that and there’s a little bit of extra pressure because of it.

It is not long ago United were still talking of a top-six push, but their ambitions have been scaled back and Fazackerley acknowledged the loss of momentum was the main source of concern.

He said: “It is and it’s disappointing, because from being in a position where we wanted to kick on and chase the play-off positions, now it’s becoming a mid-table battle but wary of what’s going on behind us.

Canice Carroll will be available for Oxford United tomorrow despite captaining Republic of Ireland’s under 19s in Spain on Thursday

Jonathan Obika, Mike Williamson, Rob Hall and Cameron Brannagan all returned to full training this week and hope to play some part against Plymouth.

Missing Players

Curtis Nelson,  Ivo Pekalski

Oxford  Match Facts

There have been over 2.5 goals scored in Oxford's last 5 games
Oxford have conceded at least 2 goals in their last 5 matches
Oxford are undefeated in their last 6 matches against Plymouth in all competitions.

Plymouth Argyle News

Derek Adams believes anything is possible when it comes to whether Plymouth Argyle can make a League One play-off push.

The Pilgrims have gone from bottom of the table to eighth position after an amazing run of nine wins, three draws and only one defeat from 13 games.

They are three points outside the play-off places, although they have played more matches than the teams directly below them.

Argyle also have to play a lot of the sides currently in the top half of the table between now and the end of the season on May 5.

Plymouth has no fresh injury worries and after four consecutive League One wins should name the same side for the fourth week running.

Gary Sawyer will continue to captain Plymouth Argyle when they take on Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday.

The 32-year-old had played every minute of every game in League One this season until the midweek 4-2 victory over AFC Wimbledon. Many fan thought he might have be rested this weekend.

Ryan Taylor has admitted there will be extra motivation for him when Plymouth Argyle play his former club on Saturday.

The 29-year-old signed for the Pilgrims last January after his contract at Oxford was cancelled by mutual consent.

Missing Players

Jordan Bentley,Luke McCormick,  Ryan Edwards,  Robbert te Loeke

Match Facts

Plymouth have won their last 4 matches
Plymouth have scored at least 2 goals in their last 4 matches
Plymouth has not won in any of their last 6 matches against Oxford in all competitions.

Round up and Prediction

When Oxford won 4-0 at Home Park on 18 November, they were 12 points and 16 places above Plymouth and right in the mix for a play-off place. Three months and ten wins later, the Pilgrim's find themselves six points ahead of Saturday's opponents and they're the ones with a top-six finish in their sights.

Plymouth's comfortable win over AFC Wimbledon in midweek was their fourth on the bounce in the league and moved them up to a season-high eighth, just three points off the play-offs.

Caretaker manager Derek Fazackerley, will know that his Oxford side must win here if they are to achieve a top-six place. His side have lost four of their last five games, which has left them nine points of sixth-place Bradford.

Oscar Threlkeld Happy birthday for yestieday

Prediction:  Oxford 1 2 Plymouth

The family setting off tomorrow for this game and staying in Swindon over night.  Scarfs will be flying high from the car

Another ground where we never seem to do well.

How things have changed since losing 4-0 at home to them in November.

Looking at the two line ups you have to sat that the huge difference is Taylor playing.

Remi Matthews, Gary Sawyer, Ryan Edwards, Sonny Bradley, Aaron Taylor-Sinclair (Gary Miller), David Fox, Yann Songo'o, Toumani Diagouraga (Antoni Sarcevic), Graham Carey, Jake Jervis, Joel Grant (Ruben Lameiras).

Remi Matthews, Oscar Threlkeld, Zak Vyner, Sonny Bradley, Gary Sawyer (Aaron Taylor-Sinclair 64), Antoni Sarcevic (Moses Makasi 76), David Fox (Yann Songo'o 55), Jamie Ness, Graham Carey, Ryan Taylor, Ruben Lameiras

We always lose to Oxford. Can't see anything other than a 2-0 loss.

Difficult game to read, would be two points off the playoffs with a win, that'll make Jimmy's lip quiver.

I think we potentially go 6th with a win. That’s if Charlton fail to get 3 points at MK.

Sounded like it was against the run of play. Going to be VERY difficult to keep Oxford out after the break.
