Way before my time but a bit special, apparently. The old man always said he was an excellent player.

Way before my time too but he made a lasting impact at Birmingham;

Argyle attained their highest ever league position of 4th in the second division in 1952/53 when Alex was starring. He was sold in the following summer soon to be joined at Birmingham by Gordon Astall with the predictable result that Argyle finished 19th and were relegated soon after. Good old Argyle directors working their time honoured magic.

Anyway, RIP Alex

How very sad, and a big part of my footballing youth. Too young to have seen him play, but he managed our youth team for a couple of years. I then played under his manager days at Truro City, where, it has to be said, that club did not treat him too well. big bonds struck up that lasted. Many early stories and insights into the darker side of the professional game at the top level.
Some lovely memories of halcyon days with him and Neil Dougall. Running around Tavistock one evening drunk as under aged yuffs having won the Devon Youth Cup, and many many other hoots.
A real proper character I shall never forget, and best not mention his special optic at the Hyde Park.
Sleep easy Alex.

Nice tribute, Lord. I remember seeing him on one of the Argo centenary videos, or somesuch. Seemed an interesting character.
