I am hopeful I can stay

JAMILLE Matt has admitted to modicum of sympathy for Sky Bet League 2 defenders.
After his second game partnered in attack with Reuben Reid, Argyle’s new loanee striker said he would not like to play against himself and Reuben if he were a defender.

Jamille opened the scoring against York after Reuben headed down a Gary Sawyer cross, with Argyle’s new number 19 in enough space to half-volley the ball into the York goal. Reuben then played a delightful pass through to Jamille who was brought down by York defender Dave Winfield for an Argyle penalty, which Reuben smashed home.

This came after a 2-0 win on Good Friday at Morecambe in which Jamille opened the scoring, and the pair gave Morecambe's centre-backs a tough afternoon.

“I wouldn't like to be playing against the two of us,” said Matt. “We can both be handfuls. We can both do both sides of the game; running in behind and hold it up. It is good to know that when the ball comes up you have not always got to do the one thing and it keeps the defenders guessing as well so that is good for us and good for the team to know they can play the ball up and we will both try and get hold of it or both run in behind. They have not got to think ‘he’s not going to run in behind’ if they play it, so it is easier hopefully for our teammates to play with as well.

“For me, Reuben is easy to play with. If I make a move he will make the opposite move so it will be easy for me to play with him. Hopefully he thinks the same; hopefully we can keep building a partnership and keep scoring goals together.”

The blossoming partnership has seen Jamille score two in two, and Argyle win two in two, at a crucial time of the season.

“As a striker your main focus is to go and score a goal," said Jamille. "I'm scoring goals and helping the team to win games so I'm doubly pleased and doubly happy.

“The ball came up. I think Reuben was battling with the centre half and I will always be sniffing around to try and get goals. It fell to me and I hit it first time.

“I always back myself to score goals if given the chances and hopefully I am starting to show that now. Before I came here I hadn't played many games so I am still getting sharper and fitter so hopefully in the next couple of weeks that will continue and that will show in the performances.

Jamille has said that he is happy he decided to move to Argyle, and hopes he can continue to contribute to the Pilgrim promotion push. The 26-year-old did confess however, that the move has not been easy.

“I'm not going to say it has been easy,"said Jamille. "It has been quite difficult, moving 300 miles from where I am used to. But like I said, I wanted to come out of my comfort zone, play games and be in a team that is looking to be promoted rather than just a middle of the road team.

"I'm happy I made that decision and hopefully I will be here for a long time. I will keep playing and do well for the team I just want to be around the lads, they have made me feel very welcome. If I can keep helping the team, then long may it continue.”

Can you extend current loans when the window close? I'm not sure you can.

Not a easy read

53.3.3    During the Transfer Windows, Emergency Loans and Youth Loans are also permitted between Clubs and, as applicable, clubs in membership of the Football Conference (North), Football Conference (South), Northern Premier League, the Isthmian League and Southern League providing the rules and regulations of the respective league so allow.  Any Emergency Loan concluded in accordance with this Regulation may be renewed during a Closed Period provided the renewal is simultaneous with the expiry of the immediately preceding period of the Emergency Loan.

So the answer is yes if Fleetwood agrees and it follows on from his 28 days loan.

Surely if we do extend his spell we may aswell send Nardiello back to Bury. Why have him here on loan if he isnt even making the bench? its pointless for all parties involved.

Hard to imagine why he was brought here. Clearly Adams doesn't rate him dont think anyone can argue with that. Did they have an early spat in Training.....??

probably truth in that Hugh, but i also think he was simply not fit when he came and struggled to impress enough in training to warrant game time here. Del Bhey should end his spell as its a waste of wages no matter how much of his Bury wage we are paying him.

But only if we cant extend Matt' loan till the end of the season as i wouldnt want us to un the rsk of being short up front if Reid falls.

ARGYLE want to explore the possibility of extending Jamille Matt’s Home Park loan.

The 6ft 4in Fleetwood Town forward’s temporary spell with the Pilgrims is scheduled to expire after the Armed Services Day game at home to Wimbledon on April 9.

However, Argyle manager Derek Adams intends to talk with fellow Scot Steven Pressley, his counterpart at Highbury Stadium, after this Saturday’s Devon Expressway Derby at Exeter to see if the Pilgrims can keep Jamille at Home Park for their Sky Bet League 2 run-in.

“Fleetwood wanted it to be the 28 days to start with,” said Derek. “We need to speak to Fleetwood and speak to Jamille and see if we can get that extended until the end of the season. That’s something we will discuss after the weekend.”

Jamille scored in both of Argyle’s games over Easter, the 2-0 Good Friday victory at Morecambe – where Pressley was among the spectators – and the 3-2 Bank Holiday Monday home win over York, when he also won a spot-kick which Reuben Reid converted.

Derek said: “He’s scored goals; he’s won a penalty; he’s created chances; he’s fitted in well to the team and the work-ethic of the squad.”

The York win saw Reuben on target for the first time since October, and it is a measure of the Pilgrims’ all-round strength that his strike-rate this season has not been as vital as it has been in the past.

“When you have got strikers scoring goals, it’s important,” said Derek, “but, this season, we have shared the goals out very well; we haven’t relied on one individual.

“Reuben has been relied on here for a couple of seasons but, this season, we have scored goals throughout the team: the strikers; the wide players; they have all contributed.”
