I'd never heard of them, but just promoted to Portugal's Top League and part owned by a group that have a 32% stake in Athletico Madrid-

Futebol Clube de Famalicão, commonly known as Famalicão, is a Portuguese football club, from Vila Nova de Famalicão.[2] Founded on 21st August 1931,[1] its senior team currently plays in the Primeira Liga, the top tier of the Portuguese football.

Since 1952, Famalicão have played their home matches at the Estádio Municipal 22 de Junho, which holds a 5,307-seat capacity.[3] The Famalicenses' most successful period of their history occurred in the early 1990s, where the club played four seasons in the Primeira Liga, between 1990 and 1994, counting now with six Primeira Liga appearances. The club is owned by Quantum Pacific Group which also has 32% share of Atlético de Madrid.

Famalicão sets its difference from many Primeira Liga teams by their supporters. The inhabitants of Vila Nova de Famalicão are passionate about their local team which makes almost every Famalicão match full with supporters. A rare scenario in Portuguese football.

Top league Portugal or basement England football - a no brainer.
Good luck to the guy.

The exodus of players with any talent to speak of.  Whet remains is barely national league south standard.  If you're not worried about this season you should be.

Ryan will likely bring in a bulk of bury players soon but unless the club are waiting for something the lack of activity is starting to get worrying. League One and Two transfer deadline: 5:00pm on Monday 2nd September.

We'll never know, but it'd be interesting to know what the salary difference is. Given that they are basically a Portuguese nothing club with a ground that holds 5,000. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if the salary offers were quite similar, but the lure of a four year contract plus top flight football has obviously swayed him, being Portuguese.

The people that own the club have a third share in Athletico I believe. Could be walletted owners.

In suspect if it's not Benfica, Sporting or Porto then the wages won't be much higher at all. Apart from the big 3, there are two clubs, Guimaraes who average around 18000 and Braga about 12000 while the rest get crowds lower than Argyle.

The rest generally rely on memberships and have representative teams in all sorts of others sports (handball being a favourite), so while they may only average 5000 they may have 20000 members whose subs primarily benefit the football side. Mind you, most are flat broke and rely on selling players to Os Tres Grandes big three or abroad, and most will have two or three back on loan from them too. It's one thing Argyle losing a player to Bulgaria, says something about the state of Portugal when top flight players can earn more in places like that.

Got to be something in that, its a strange move otherwise. He's approaching the best years of his career and he's tied himself down for 4 years at a newly promoted club that has a ground capacity of 5K. I'd have thought he would bag a couple of years at a Champioship club on £20k a week.

It could be that Atletico think he might be decent and want to park him somewhere to have a closer look, but I don't think he's up to their level or a club like that would be looking round Argo for players.
