As it's not obvious that this to do with the BGL, people who received such s call would not look in the BGL thread, if that makes sense.

Are you answering as a Mod, Ian, or as the owner of the site (who may be in control of the Mods)?

Just asking. :problem:

I'm not in control of the Mods Jim, but I do moderate on occasion, but I'm not a Moderator.

Quite simply, I know how the site works and merging this one, may serve against the communication this site endeavours to supply.

So he moderates on occasions but isn't a moderator, it's a bit like the times he spouts on about being against capitivty of sea creatures but there's no sea going creatures in the marine aquarium he works at. Obviously misunderstands what marine means. Not the brightest is he really and he had the cheek to call Rickler a thick idiot Laughing

Talking about the aquarium and it's non seagoing fish, looks like the bad karma that follows this unpopular individual continues apace. Visitor numbers must be falling off a cliff with the Sutton Harbour  property gang still keeping the pedestrian bridge from the Barbican still closed, with no sign of the repairs blackmaildispute being solved. Symptomatic of more property/planning wheezes  up at the airport ? Looks like the Marie Celeste over there.

The footbridge is closed because it's bearings have failed after having been replaced fairly recently. It's thought the foundations under the bridge bearings may be damaged. That part of the harbour is the responsibility of the Environment Agency, hence the lack of progress. Nothing to do with Sutton Harbour.

Regardless of whose responsibility it is, it's an absolute scandal how long it's taken to repair, with peak season soon to be over the posh chippy and the aquarium have lost shitloads of business.

The whole bridge turntable has to be replaced, and maybe even worse than that with foundation issues that might affect the gates.
Living down there, and affected by the closure, I was told there's an argument raging over who is going to pay for the very expensive repairs. That discussion include Sutton Harbour Holdings who own nearly everything in sight. The nanny state, as some call it, doesn't pay for everything or insure land owners for all eventualities.

Time to dust off those buckets and help out those tenants of SHH. I wouldn't at all be surprised if it takes longer than Argyle's administration to sort out who pays what and fix the problem. It'll be next year.

Be interesting to see what would happen if major work is needed on the lock system. It's closed to traffic all too often as it is for breakdowns. If the harbour had to close for a prolonged period it would cost SHH a fortune.
Bring back the old tidal Barbican, coal quay & fish market. Real character of a real working port . Smile

I blame the PC/H&S merchants Very Happy.....50 years ago they would've lobbed a couple of sturdy planks down and carried on regardless.

Hey Les, have you seen the planks in place on the quayside at Porthleven ? Same at Mousehole of course. They just get lowered down whenever there's a flood or storm likely. Does the trick. Very Happy
The lock gates have worked and enabled the fish market to expand and take away business from Brixham and Newlyn, and of course there's now the lucrative marina. You would have thought SHH could afford to stomp up for the repairs, as they are the main benefactors from the flood gates paid for by taxpayers originally. I quite liked the old open harbour too, although it did flood on occasion around the Three Crowns on record tides. The Barbican and Coxside never did get on. Some highly amusing clashes.
SHH are just so so different than, say, the Barbican Association, who were the property managers/tenant representatives for many of the old Barbican buildings, including a business I had down there many years ago. They were always open to listen and maybe knock some rent off in certain circumstances. A well meaning community organisation. If only more property cultures were like that

I fished between those piers on many occasions, some ansum Pollack to be had. Bought some fish from Rex Down on the fish Quay a few weeks ago. Worth a visit if you want good fish. I remember Rex himself and his fish store near the old fish market. A lovely old chap then, I was just a whipper snapper.
