Passed away. Slightly before my time but my old man used to speak very highly of him as a ball playing creative midfielder and he was instrumental in the good Argyle teams of the early 1960's.Never forget his comment when he was the half time guest at a HP evening match a couple of years ago-the compere asked him what he thought of the match so far and Jim was evidently unimpressed-"After watching that, i think the ball needs to go to hospital". Laughing He was manager of Rotherham for 5 years after his playing days and his brother Tom was a Sheffield Wednesday stalwart for many years, obviously a footballing family.

There seems to have been an unusual number of players who have played for both us and Rotherham: Furnell, Neil Hague, Reuben Reid, Ben Purrington, Darren Garner off the top of my head. There must be others.

I can hardly recall any, Conor Hourihane apart, who played for nearby Barnsley, for instance, as a comparison.

I think Tommy Tynan was another who played for Rotherham.

I'm sure Rory Fallon had a spell at Barnsley. Wouldn't bet my life on it, mind.

Slightly built, classy inside forward. Remember him well from my early days at HP. I see that before Argyle, he spent 8 years at Hillsborough from the age of 17 but only played 40 first team games. They were largely a top flight club at the time and when relegated back then on more than one occasion, came straight back each time.
Argyle won promotion to the second tier when he arrived and remained there till after he left, with average home attendances over 20k for 3 seasons, then mid teens til we were relegated in '69.
RIP Jimmy

He was the old fashioned inside forward, I suppose these days he'd be the "creative midfielder" but he was excellent on the ball. RIP Jim.

Mark Smith went to Barnsley and I think Argyle signed Julian Broddle from them. We used to have a goalkeeper called Geoff Barnsley as well.

Just watching the C5 goals thing. Rotherham have only 17 points from 38 games. They are not yet relegated but will be soon.

Why on Earth would a team in their position spend £300k on a left back?

What is going on up there?
