Derek Adams hopeful over keeping loan pair at Plymouth Argyle for longer

DEREK ADAMS is cautiously optimistic about the chances of extending the stays of Paul-Arnold Garita and Craig Tanner at Plymouth Argyle.

The pair completed loan spells from Bristol City and Reading respectively after the Pilgrims' 4-2 defeat of Stevenage at Home Park.

Adams admitted after the game against Stevenage he was 'hopeful' of keeping Garita and Tanner as part of his promotion-chasing squad for the rest of the season.

However, the Pilgrims' boss stated he would not know for sure until Monday.

Garita scored one of the goals against Stevenage, which was his second for Argyle and the first since the 2-0 victory over Exeter City at St James' Park.

It was a fortunate one for the 21-year-old, though, as he did not know much about it.

They're both big players in our squad. A lot of fans think Tanner should start and I can understand that but he is becoming a bit of a ''super-sub'' coming on against tired defences.

More chance Tanner will stay as Reading probably don't need him for their play-off push. I doubt we'll see Garita again - could be needed as back up if Bristol City get sucked further into a relegation scrap. Every January we go through this.

I think Blissett has been brought in by Adams with one eye on the possibility Garita could go back. Garita hasn't really impressed me to be honest. He's a big brute but he is clumsy with a capital C. Had a great debut but lived off that game for quite a few that followed. Tanner would be more of a loss.

Very true. And now with the advent of the ubiquitous Argyle 12 month contract, every July as well. "Building" a team seems to be a thing of the past.

Tanner is the kind of player, that Argyle need and should have if they want to be automatically promoted and stay for more than one season in league 1.
Given there is a reasonably large amount of money coming into the club now, Adams has the chance to bring in the player permanently, if Tanner agrees.
But wait a minute I forgot the owner doesn't think we need any new players because the squad is doing quite well right now, in fact he laughed at the idea.
Shame.

Agree on Garita, seen him play 3 times and think he should consider rugby as an option.
