Heavy defeats

Looking ahead to our trip to Liverpool where Jimmys marvels ship 6 goals without reply to Liverpools reserves.... what is the worst defeat you've ever seen either in terms of goals or ineptitude?

I wasn't at the infamous 7-0 defeat at Griffin Park but saw us lose at home 5-1 to them. The 2010 4-0 defeat to Swindon the day after the players hadn't been paid was pretty gruesome.

the home game against Exeter when Jepson got a hat trick was pretty grim.

For me it was probably losing 4-3 to Reading after being 3 up and cruising in promotion year must have been 85/86

6-1 away to Arsenal at Highbury in the FA Cup - David Rocastle and Paul Davis were on a different level that day, absolutely ran the show. We were top of what's now the Championship, they were top of what's now the Premiership. The gulf in class was as wide as the distance from Home Park to Highbury. 1986/7 if memory serves me correctly.

Fella named Shearer (not Alan - Duncan?) once scored 4 against us at Home Park when playing for Glenn Hoddle's Swindon and he also had a brilliant and perfectly legal 5th mysteriously disallowed. That was pretty shabby.

I think it was the first 3 home games of Peter Swan's career that set the bar though. We went from play-off losers (despite being the best footballing team in the division by a mile) expecting to go one better next time to losing to Brentford, Bradford and Stockport (1-5, 1-5 and 0-3). I've not seen a team collapse so spectacularly since.

I was at West Ham for the 5-0 drubbing during the Bobby Williamson era. Went into the Boleyn pub afterwards with my West Ham supporting mate. West Ham fans couldn't even bring themselves to take the piss. They actually felt sorry for me having to support a team that was so crap.

That was a superb performance in comparison to a 5-0 battering dished out by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Ken Brown era. Dixon, Durie and Nevin tore Argyle to pieces and without Cherry pulling off about 10 blinders it really could have been a club record defeat. Wonder what happened in the actual record defeat because Argyle had quite a decent second division team at the time and beat Stoke 3-1 at HP but lost 9-0 at the Victoria ground. Strange one.

5-1 at C Palace in 1987.....they had Ian Wright and Mark Bright up front.....I think Tynan came off with a shoulder or Collarbone injury.
