Notts County avoid being wound up in the High Court over alleged tax debt

Notts County today escaped being wound up for the fourth time over an alleged tax debt at London's High Court.

Top insolvency judge, Ms Registrar Christine Derrett dismissed a winding up petition brought by the taxman after being told it was being withdrawn. The amount of the alleged debt at the centre of the winding up moves was not disclosed.

HMRC asked for the petition to be withdrawn but gave no reasons in a hearing which lasted less than a minute. However, their decision almost certainly means the debt has been paid.

It was back in May that the League Two club faced winding up for the third time after confusion over whether their undisclosed tax debt had been paid.
